Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Hi. I am 25 weeks pregnant and was diagnosed with a PE in my right lung six weeks ago. The only thing that clued me into the fact that something was wrong was I was very short of breath which I had attributed to the fact that I was pregnant. Luckily I just knew there was something wrong and went to the hospital. I am feeling actually pretty great. My physical symptoms are actually pretty mild compared to some people I have read about on here. So physically I am doing great.
The problem is mentally I am a basketcase. I suffered from health anxiety and an anxiety disorder before this happened, and now my worst fear seems to have come true. They say that 1 in 1000 pregnant women develop a PE so now statistics are not very comforting to me. If I can be the 1 can't I be the 1 in every statistic? So even thought something is unlikely to happen it still could.
I have made the mistake of researching a lot of this stuff on the internet and my biggest fear is not just another PE but just dropping dead suddenly. I can't seem to get it out of my head no matter what I try.
Any advice? I want to enjoy this pregnancy (I have wanted it for so long and I am an old mom - 44)

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.

Remember with PEs, once you're diagnosed and on treatment, your risk for more PEs is very low. It's unusual to clot while on anticoagulants, assuming you're on lovenox or something. The risks are really related to not getting diagnosed in time.
I was also diagnosed with a PE during pregnancy (10 weeks in) and dealt with anxiety afterwards. This forum really helped me, and whenever I felt afraid of dying suddenly I would remind myself that I was on blood thinners so the possibility of another clot was very low if not impossible. I started to feel a lot better a couple of months after the PE and had a great pregnancy from then on, and delivered a healthy baby boy. I'm now pregnant again and on blood thinners and things are going well. I know the sudden death part of PEs is pretty scary but you've gotten through the worst of it and are now diagnosed and being treated and are in good hands. Anxiety is normal though and it's good to talk, maybe through talk therapy as another poster suggested. I saw a therapist and that also really helped.
I hope one day I will feel back to my normal self. Especially with a new baby coming. It has been really hard getting people (esp my boyfriend) to understand so it is nice to be here with people who do.
Dchild, I was wondering if I could message you about pregnancy on blood thinners as it would be great to talk to someone who already went through it and wasn't too scared to do it again!
