Sorry to hear about your troubles with your INR, you probably feel like a pincushion with all the blood draws.

I have heard of this.
There are some people who just have really efficient livers and clear the drug faster than the drug can have an effect.

There are some other things that may be interfering with the warfarin uptake and metabolism. If you are on other drugs that get cleared by the liver that can put your liver into overdrive as well. Some drugs or nutrients like iron can affect your dosage. And some foods might surprise you with their vitamin k content so it's worthwhile googling for a more complete list to see if you're getting secret vitamin k . .

I would not try to avoid vitamin k. The more you mess with your diet, the harder it is to dial into the right does for you. The idea of diet and warfarin is consistency, not making changes. It took me 5 months to finally get to a therapeutic INR. For some people it just takes a while because their bodies are just more resistant to it With that said ask your doc what the plan is. Warfarin is no longer the only game in town.

I want to thank you both notsopatient and rmb for your replies. The sad thing is I changed my diet immediately after being released from the hospital because I was diagnosed with fatty liver. So that may be the issue on top of avoiding those foods with Vitamin K. Went for a draw today and was 1.6, a bit better, but not good enough, more blood work for my liver. The good news is I am losing weight, my fatty liver was due to out of control diabetes, when I write all of this I just can't believe the condition I have gotten myself in, not enough activity. I work from home, and in front of computer all day, sometimes I don't eat anything at all for the entire day, so I have just really screwed up my body, but boy was this a wake up call!! Hello Shannon...sorry to hear about your levels...it takes time...i also was started on warfin after a bad bleed with Xarelto...it took some time for my inr level to reach therapeutic levels...if u eat greens just say consistent with the amount...don't eat a large bowl of greens in one sitting...if you're one to eat greens everyday..just eat the same amount each day..hang in there..make sure u take your warfin each day..i also take 5mg....15 mg three days out of the week..the remaining days 10mg....again hang in there i promise you...you will get there....once u get there you can look forward to once a month visit to the anticoagulant clinic:)

Ladyt68 thank you so much for your response. It really made me feel hopeful and I have been feeling so discouraged. I really appreciate your response and the recommendations. So my INR level was a 1.3 on Friday, was so disappointed. Really trying not to go on the other blood thinners. Dosing for Warfarin up now to 25 mg/20 mg alternating days, go to Anticoag. clinic tomorrow. I am grateful for any prayers or positive thoughts - goal would be a 2.5 - 3.00, but I would be happy with a 2.00!

I had a hard time leveling out as well. After talking to a lot of the nurses there are so many things that contribute to a low INR. Like everyone else said do not mess with your diet. Try to be consistent with your foods. If you drink alcohol that will affect it greatly. If you have started to work out or walk around more that can bring it down as well. If you can, get your doctor to send you to a Coumadin clinic. Unless you already are. The nurses at those were able to get my INR stable really fast.

The last time I posted was in April of 2017, at that time was still trying to get my INR levels right. I ended up taking 30 mg every 4 days and 40 mg every 3 days of Warfarin, and I was told that I take the highest dosage of any patient they have at the clinic. Believe me I am not bragging about that; it's just another example of the weirdness that is my life with PEs. And now just two weeks ago after being of the Warfarin for about two months or so. I have a new slew of them and must stay on the Warfarin now for life.

I am just so disheartened and scared to death. Now I worry most about dropping dead with no warning with no way to prepare anyone in my family. I feel I have had two close calls with death, but don't think I will be so lucky next time. I fearful that the PEs will still break off and go to my heart or brain even while taking the blood thinner, The thought keeps me up at night, the worry is so difficult.

I never was a person who dealt the much with anxiety, but now it is relentless. I am glad to be back on the site and to connect with other survivors it does help! We can't change the inevitable but I want to live, so I have to try everything that I can to survive this condition!!

I am not happy about being on Warfarin forever and have too much fear to go on the other blood thinners out there with no reversal agent. I am certain my anxiety would only be heightened. It must take an incredible amount of faith to be on those other blood thinners?

The whole thing is just rough either way...life altering for sure!
