Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Hello, my name is Shannon. I am 48 years old and just a little over three weeks ago I was diagnosed with PE in both lungs. I had an overnight stay in the hospital with a heparin drip, and then sent home instructed to take Lovenox injections and Warfarin. I have been going to doctor's visits ever since in the hope of starting the therapeutic dosage of Warfarin, but so far every time I go my blood levels range between 1.00 to 1.2. I avoid foods with Vitamin K. I take the medication as prescribed and on time, and so far there has been no improvement. I am having to take the Lovenox injections twice a day until the Warfarin kicks in and brings my levels to a goal of 2.5 to 3. I have gone from a dosage of 5 m to now 20 mg of the Coumadin. They have mentioned that there may be issue with my liver. Has anyone else had this problem? Sorry if my spelling is off, and thank you in advance for responding.

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
Sorry to hear about your troubles with your INR, you probably feel like a pincushion with all the blood draws.
I have heard of this.
There are some people who just have really efficient livers and clear the drug faster than the drug can have an effect.
There are some other things that may be interfering with the warfarin uptake and metabolism. If you are on other drugs that get cleared by the liver that can put your liver into overdrive as well. Some drugs or nutrients like iron can affect your dosage. And some foods might surprise you with their vitamin k content so it's worthwhile googling for a more complete list to see if you're getting secret vitamin k . .
I am just so disheartened and scared to death. Now I worry most about dropping dead with no warning with no way to prepare anyone in my family. I feel I have had two close calls with death, but don't think I will be so lucky next time. I fearful that the PEs will still break off and go to my heart or brain even while taking the blood thinner, The thought keeps me up at night, the worry is so difficult.
I never was a person who dealt the much with anxiety, but now it is relentless. I am glad to be back on the site and to connect with other survivors it does help! We can't change the inevitable but I want to live, so I have to try everything that I can to survive this condition!!
I am not happy about being on Warfarin forever and have too much fear to go on the other blood thinners out there with no reversal agent. I am certain my anxiety would only be heightened. It must take an incredible amount of faith to be on those other blood thinners?
The whole thing is just rough either way...life altering for sure!
