Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Do you find yourself hyper focused on your heart rate when you sense it's getting high and so it speeds up out of anxiety or because you're thinking about it so much? That happened to me after my PE. I'd be so focused on my heart rate that it would soar sometimes. But if I went into the doc for an appointment, it would be fine. If you read up on heart palps, you find that anxiety and panic are often the cause.
I hate to beat a dead horse with the anxiety and stress, but it's a real thing, and it can either cause, or greatly contribute, to what you're feeling, honest.
Besides, this is great news! It doesn't sound like there's any damage or problem with your heart.

Personally, I wish I had been a little more aggressive with the activity during my recovery. I'm still in terrible shape, more than six years later, just because I got in a habit of letting myself do nothing. Getting back into the zone of being more active is taking some work.
If you're concerned, you should ask your doc if you need to be worried about the higher heart rate when you're walking around. I think most of us get that for a while as we try to increase our activity. We're just so darn out of shape that it is pretty common. But, getting a medical opinion ought to help put your mind at ease over what is OK (or not OK) to do.
