By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
How do you know if your clot(s) have dissolved. I have been reading many prior post in this group and some state 'their clots are dissolved' or 'even if your clot dissolves you still have to take the blood thinner 6 months'.
But many say you will be short of breath for months or years. I assume due to lung damage.
Other than more CT scans, how do you know your clot dissolved? O2 stats? Blood pressure? Intuition? Echo?

Most people do not have shortness of breath for years. There are some cases where there are complications from the clot but I had a lung infarction and I did not have shortness of breath for years. I’d say by the six month mark I was feeling really good. By the three month mark I was is when I really turned a corner but still had intermittent shortness of breath. I had heart damage,massive clots in both lungs, like the worst scenario and I’m fine. Don’t get too caught up in the stories of people who never seem to recover. Those are not the norm.
