My INR would drop like that too. I feel mine was due to an increase in exercise The doctor increased my dosage to 10 mg and I was concerned because everyone else seemed to be on 5mg. Everyone is different and diet and exercise is the key.

I can say everyone is different. I have listened where most people start and stay at 5 mg.. I started at 5 mg for day 1... 10 mg day 2... and settled for 2.5 mg everyday since then .. I've slowly ranged up from 2.4 to 2.9 and decided I lacked veges in my diet. I don't eat consistently enough and when I finally did (during easter) it went back from 2.9 to 2.4 the first time in a month... I also have been a lot more physical recently so I think a multitude of factors can affect it but I also wouldn't let it hold me back from doing life in general

Last Wednesday, hematologist told me to up my dose to 12mg for 4 days and then back to 9mg and have follow up with my PCP (she has the little machine and monitors my INR normally). Went in yesterday and I am back to 2.4. Stay on 9mg and follow up test in 2 weeks.
Glad it went back up....

I totally agree with RMB!!! This is all pretty much normal. When I was first diagnosed with my first PE, like you everything worried me. I eventually got through that, but before my PE I was a smoker and the doctor told me since I had been in the hospital for 14 days I might just as well quit smoking and I would be healthier for it. It would also be better for my poor lungs that had just been traumatized. OK so I quit smoking. Since then I have been diagnosed with High blood pressure, thyroid problems, I went through a few years with Tachycardia and have been diagnosed with Lupus Anticoagulant, or antiphospolipid disease. Really? I can't afford to get any healthier. Was my PE the cause of all the new ailments? Hard telling but I truly doubt it. Am I a thousand times more aware of my body and how I am feeling? Absolutely 100%. You are going to experience ups and downs in the healing process, and on any given day your PT/INR can range all over the place. You are going to be more aware of every little thing and every little change in your body, if for no other reason but because of what you went through. Like I said Coumadin is a fickle drug. That's why we do test often and that is also why we often times have such weird combination of dosages we are requested to take just to stay on track with our PT/INR. Good luck to you and hang in there. it does get better.

A week after my PE I was at a 2.3, about 5 days later I was at a 2.5. I was still a zombie at this point, not eating much and not being too active (no work or school). I just went in for another appointment this morning after two weeks and my INR plummeted to 1.3. I've been eating normally and have started back to school and work. Less sleep, more food, more activity, more up and about, all of it factored in. My doctor didn't seem to alarmed, although he did say that we needed to bump it back up. That's why we go in so frequently to get checked.

I have learned to stop freaking out about the numbers. My doctors have been great- I have realized that most of my fear is created in my own mind. While I certainly watch what I eat, I am not going to agonize about this anymore. I realize that my faith in Christ lets me know that this life is too precious to waste all of mine and my family's time with worry, so I have given it up to him..... Will I still find times when I feel the little pains or worry creeping up? Sure, but I am learning to just remember to let it go and it takes care of itself. I am trusting my doctors more too.
