By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

For those of you that have been reading my posts I did end up changing cardiologists. I saw him this week and he did another echo on my heart since it has been 3 months since my PE. He found that the right side of my heart has gone back to normal in size and function. I got a copy of the echo results and I did see that I have mild dysfunction of the left ventricle diastolic side. Not sure what that is about and if that was caused by the PE or if I had it prior to the PE. Anyone else experience this?

Hi,

at my last echo (in december, one month after my second PE) I had elevated pressure in the pulmonary arteries plus mitral and tricuspid valve insufficiency. My cardiologist and lung doctor said that this kind of deficit is quite normal if you have had a PE a few months before. I don't think you should be concerned about it if your doctors were not. Mild dysfunctions are present even in fully healthy people and cause no problem at all.

Renaec23, im so pleased to hear you got good news! That's fantastic. The right side of the heart is the part which is affected by PE, so I would expect that the mild dysfunction which was shown doesn't have anything to do with the PE, since it is on the left side of the heart. Like others said, sometimes people who are perfectly healthy have weird little anomalies like that. If the cardiologist didn't express any type of concern about it, I wouldn't be concerned. My lung CT had shown up some weird spots of calcification, which I asked about and they told me it's like a common and insignificant abnormality - enough to mention the finding in a report, but not enough to be clinically significant. I'd figure your mild dysfunction is something like that, but if you get a chance to ask you doctor about it at some point, you can always ask to be sure. But again, so happy for you, great news!

Thank you everyone. He showed me the echo and explained how my heart was functioning and he told me I have a normal healthy heart now and it's time to start reconditioning and make sure I walk every day. But yes, I plan on asking him about the other finding that was mentioned on the report at my next follow-up.

My echo showed "impaired relaxation" of left ventricle. It's a fairly common finding. especially as we age. Basically, the left ventricle is kind of stiff. I have no effect from it whatsoever, and my exercise tolerance is back to where it was pre-clotting. I also have a mildly leaky mitral valve. As others have said, you can have these physiological variations and be healthy.

@corvid100 Oh ok well that is good to hear that it's fairly common and that you still exercise without any issues. I've been wondering if that would impact my exercise tolerance so I'm glad you replied.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
