Lets face it , holidays are hard for anyone suffering from any affliction and those that dont. How do you cope with your triggers from days past or current challenges

For me, Christmas. My grandpa passed away on Christmas morning. I don't always know how to properly cope with the trigger because I can't control the holiday, but when I do cope, I try my best to smile and be thankful for what I have. I know that's what my grandfather would have wanted if he was still here.

Me it's coping with family, inappropriate behavior from my nieces n nephews, who are not children but adults, they always roll their eyes at gifts that they get

Just the word "holiday" is a trigger, honestly. But, in effort to be more specific, I've noticed something new this year. It's the first year I've consciously recognized winter holidays, rather than immersing myself in home repair projects and take out in effort to mentally dodge the horror of all the emotions. This year, I opened my home to those who may not have families to share Christmas with, and we are all doing a big dinner at my place. To put myself "in the mood," I set up a few Christmas stations on Pandora - one instrumental, one choral, and one modern. I have no real issue with the instrumental, in fact I kind of like it. Same with the choral station. But if ANY cartoonish or acoustic song comes on with vocals, I feel like I'm in the middle of a horror movie. Something that should elicit feelings of joy, instead elicits dark, eerie vibes and a feeling that a huge, oppressive weight is holding me down. I feel cornered and captive. There is no cheer, just fear and sadness. I suppose I've not figured this out in all these years, because I've absolutely refused to listen to Christmas music for probably 15 years now. I wouldn't even go into stores if it was playing.

My boyfriend just got locked up about three and a half weeks ago. He is facing up to three years minimum. How I cope with it is music poetry, coloring and writing him almost every day

Visiting my family because Christmas was my family's most violent day of the year. So I don't go any more, and I have a peaceful Christmas.

My great-grandma died shortly before CHristmas, and my dad hated Christmas (he was mean) and so... the day itself is stressful. I like the season, as a rule. But the day itself holds bad memories. I try to do something different every year, so it's not the same as "back then". Tradition is great. Sanity is better.

Multiple. I mostly keep them to myself though. Because my triggers are other people's joys...and reasons for the seasons...

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
