Thanks for sharing Muji :) I have not seen any yet, but I did see one about bipolar if I remember correctly. I have it on a note somewhere. I think most of the TV I watch no one wants to be a part of! LOL!

I watched it when it aired on FX. It was harsh a lot of times, but the PTSD part? Yeah. They got *that* right.... It was hard to watch for me, but also at times poignant and funny and, as I look back, a perfect illustration of trying to go on when going on seems to be impossible. Yet it's done anyway. Good show. Dennis Leary was awesome in it.

Yea, "Rescue Me" is a little heavy on the redundant vocabulary for me. I can only hear "The Naughty Seven" so many times before I feel like I am listening to a teeny bopper from UM (University of Mars), but they do, indeed, do a good job of showing how PTSD weaves through my own life. 'Twas a time when I even suffered that much hyper-sexuality. . .

Another I like down that line is a cop show, "Saving Grace." Among the cop characters, it does well at showing how to keep normal PTS from evolving into the disorder. The peripheral characters show more of the disorder. Sometimes they cope, other times they are just "bad guys."

I found PBS Masterpiece theater years ago at the beginning of facing my PTSD. Before that I needed comedy shows after work.....anyway the two that are forever etched in my brain are "Seeing Red"....format is a blurred picture you can not make out,is repeated throughout the story, each time a tiny bit more in focus, but still blurred, but it was so powerful as they wove the story little by little. Second one is "Shooting the Past"....about pictures taken , found in a camera, but a puzzle of what they were about....again powerful for me. Thanks for sharing! Hugs

arfie, I watched every episode of Saving Grace, now that you mention it. It was great. It's nice to see shows developed about us that feature sympathetic characters like Grace, the one Holly Hunter played. I loved her "last chance angel" in the show. Plus, I had lived in Tulsa for 3 years as an adult, and Saving Grace was set in Oklahoma City.

As Rescue Me brought up PTSD after 9/11, Saving Grace brought up PTSD after the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. I really appreciated that, since I'm a car bombing survivor with PTSD myself.

I LOVE Netfilix. Right now, I'm doing about 2 or 3 of Frankie and Grace, only b/c I love Lilly Tomlin. (I can do w/o Jane Fonda... such a no talent, IMHO)

I'll have to check out the Leary one. Although his standup was very caustic to me. So abrasive.

I just wish there'd be one PTSD show that dealt with the "normal/boring" way to get it- from our families growing up...

Muji, I'm not sure if I should have said TW with those two I shared...truthfully because I was barely feeling anything at all then...it's hard to know what might trigger...I have thought about trying to find them and watch them again now, so thanks for letting me know you found them. Hugs!

Reading my Sunday paper I just spied a positive review of a tv comedy, no less, that is about PTSD: "You're the Worst." Anybody seen it? It's supposed to be about a guy named Edgar who served in Iraq and has nightmares about IEDs. SInce I survived an IED car bombing, I'm intrigued. If anybody sees it please let me know, ok?

Found it muji!! I have Comcast and going thru On -Demand stuff season 1 is available to purchase, looks like 10 episodes, and it does mention PTSD in the brief description. I'm thinking about it a bit before I purchase it....Thanks for the share...Hugs!

I'm watching Law and Order SVU right now on Netflex... It may be a trigger for those who have been sexually assaulted however it is filled with people suffering from PTSD

I found it, too, via Amazon Instant Streaming. I bought an episode (each costs $1.99), so I'll watch it, too, and we can compare notes.

It's a risky thing they're doing going for a comedy, of all things, with PTSD. Like SunCloud is saying, cop dramas like Law & Order SVU depict PTSD. But a comedy?

But if it works, that would be so cool. The TV show M.A.S.H. years ago with Alan Alda was a hit for 13 seasons, and it was a comedy set in a surgical unit in a war zone. So something like this has happened before. It would be great to have comic relief for my PTSD.

MASH always and forever in my top five favorite shows...and there was heavy stuff dealt with in a comedy format...I still watch it and can both cry and laugh in the same episode. The very first seasons of plain old Law and Order I could watch (from early 90's when Chris Noth was in the cast) but nowdays it's way too heavy for me. My living situation is such that I am isolating almost totally, so I'm not sure if I can watch "You are the worst" yet.....I am kinda waiting for the other shoe to drop..move to where??..comic relief for PTSD somehow would sure be a release. so muji if you see it I'd be very interested in your take on it. I felt the same way you do about M.A.S.H. so I'll try to use that as my standard for comparison. M.A.S.H. was partly my inspiration to become a hospital chaplain from 2001-2011--the character of their M.A.S.H. chaplain, Fr. Mulcahy.

I thought of a couple shows/series actually. One called "The Newsroom" an HBO series that went for 3 years, created by Aaron Sorkin (West Wing)..It wasn't directly about PTSD, but dealt with the characters issues woven tbroughout.Jeff Daniels..great acting

Another "In Treatment" another HBO series...Gabriel Byrne starred as the Therapist. I think it went for 3 years. he was so good, I felt like I was sitting in my own therapy...again the therapist with a past, but cared about his patients...deep and thought provoking...Hugs!!

cheesecake, I really liked the Newsroom. Saw it all, and even though it wasn't a series about PTSD, there was a string of episodes about a tv news producer who had PTSD after filming a tragedy in Uganda. It was well done.

I've heard about In Treatment but chickened out about watching it, to be honest. Your recommendation, though, has made me reconsider. I'll check it out.
