I won't write too much here since I am out of words to share.
As many of you know, I've come a long way from where I was many years ago. It's kind of hard to believe I've Bern part of this community for over 2 years. I've been able to share my achievements and accomplishments with many of you. I am up and ready into looking at graduate programs for the fall of 2016. That's huge for me.
Long and short, I am caught between my past and present. With all and all, I find that I am in this transitioning stage in my life and it seems it's been forever. As if this was never new and always present and I didn't notice. Depleted and overwhelmed, I can't stand knowing I am living in a place where I experienced my worst years of hell. Maybe I am not the only one who knows what I am talking about: where you have achieved so much internally, that the external doesn't seem to add up or match your inner life. I don't put aside the changes I've seen happening already but you would think some people would just get the big picture, meanwhile they are handicapped in their mindsets.
I leave with this guys. Daily strength is a home for me. God is a place of home for me. The work I seek and do is a reflection of who I am. The people I surround myself with are a reflection of what I seek and seek of myself. Why can't the family that raised me be a place, a source of comfort instead of all the heartaches and disappointments? I am stuck guys.

I, too, feel like DS PTSD is a very special home for me. I don't understand why family was never home for me, either, so I understand how you're stuck but I can't offer the answer.
From others here I've come to learn it is about them, not about me. Sometimes those we love don't grow along with us. That's made me appreciate my family of choice here at DS PTSD all the more.
Don't wait for them that think they are fine where they are.
Accepting that about them may allow you to let go of the albatross of the weight of their own choices.
I know had had to let go of that myself to use all I had and could find to get direction. My fight is to keep moving forward now, with or without them is their choice.
One of my turnaround points was the other not so well portion of the serenity prayer
"Living one day at a time:
Enjoying on moment at a time:
Accepting the hardship as the way to peace,
Taking as he did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it.
Trusting that he will make all things right, If I surrender to his will.
That I may be reasonably happy in this world and supremely happy with him in the next."
In this part of the prayer:
Taking this sinful world as it is...equaled to accept that I can't change others.
in my mind, was a big difference in my thinking about those that hurt me.
The wisdom to know the differences a powerful affirmation.
I find a lot of people here that are also working toward the goal of helping themselves and others that are of the same goal set.. It is here we have commonality but a diversity of thought, ways to help and the people that understand and support us.
Gentle hug FindingKatB.
Jewells
Jewells1, your words hit directly on the nail. It's something when you find people that know and can comprehend the choices and decisions one has made. It's comforting. The hardest part of letting go is recognizing that sometimes, you have to leave others to their own and not carry their guilt/burdens. Not because you don't care but because they don't.
Thanks for the addition of the Serenity prayer. That is beautifully awesome!
I don't know why your family can't be what you need them to be, but I sure am impressed with the independent woman who has evolved because of it.
My random thought on the being stuck is that sometimes "being stuck' is just God's way of telling me to get some rest.
Gentle support while you sort your own, Kat.
I d not grasp why it was never "safe" and "home" with my childhood family, either. It's not something they see or recognize or admit, because that would mean acknowledging imperfection. To them, in my dad's fam? Anathema.
Me, I come here, I do my therapies, I rejoice in the fact that sometimes Progress is----Not Sliding Backwards.
