Sharing Experience vs. Advice Giving

Working through the pain and confusion of traumatic experiences is the heart and soul of my own participation in support group therapy. As a child sex trafficking survivor, I got me a no-fucking-fair load of those. Since my attempts to just it all and rewrite herstory didn't work. . . Works in progress. . . Healing takes what it takes.
In the live support groups where I have received the vast majority of my support group therapy, advice-giving is strictly prohibited. We have professionals and columnists for that job. Let it be work. In peer support we share strictly personal experience and find/give strength and support in our common ground. I was still a teenager and considering a career as an advice columnist when I started group therapy and, girl howdy, that was a tough concept for me to grasp. I am glad I learned. In my strictly personal case, I was using my good intentions toward others to deflect the painful truths I was repressing.
Fast forward a few decades I find myself asking aggresive advice-givers to send me a resume so that I can forward it to the professionals who screen my professionals. They'll let you know if a position opens on my advisory council. On the internet, I usually don't need any more than the power of my mighty mouse to just surf on. There is no shortage of opinions on the internet.
Dunno what I am reaching for here. . . Thoughts?

It's been some time since my last post...sorry. I've been going through a challenging time with the sale of my home, purchase of a condo and my adult asperger son that lives with me. I've had days where I couldn't get out of bed, days where I stayed in my pj's and days where all I managed to do was eat, drink fluids and take care of my Sweet Mia kitty. Sweet Mia came to me from a shelter about...

If I come to DS and it won't do anything when I click "Login", I go to a post, click and then click "Leave a Reply". Then it will let me log in.Of course, sometimes DS just goes to "Error 504". Then I can't log in.

The road to good intentions is paved with pot holes. For me having someone listen to me is more important than them giving me advice.
Each person has their own path in life...different from mine
I can share my path...it's the choice of the other to accept or not as it pertains to their situation.
Advice, thou well intentioned, can block another's person from learning, finding 'their way' and 'their path'...their emotional or spiritual growth.
Sometimes hard to do with empath/codependent tendency...work in progress here..."when to speak and when to shut up"...interesting book
Expert opinions are easy to come by and frequently reminders that I don't want to keep my mind so open that my brain falls out. Again.
Grateful for the number of readers, I do the research '''for my own medical wellbeing/mental/physical/spiritual' and copy paste info...again "their choice' to follow through.
As far as 'professionals go" my faith is in "me" to be the advocate of my 'own personals' and ask All Questions that I don't understand...sadly, the days of 'open, explaining, 30 minute' doctor visits are gone...
By the way, your brains and tool box seem to be a good match!
I am far more open to sharing strictly personal experience and insights in my support groups. There I am not a consumer and I'm not expected to buy or sell anything. It is *just* caring and sharing of healing hopes.
Sharing experience gets under the radar of my defenses. It prompts me to consider looking back on my own life experience in a new way to find answers usually already there to solve my problems. What it shows is that I don't listen to my own experience all that well when left to my own devices. It takes someone showing me how they use their experience well for me to learn how to use mine to get myself well, too.
Wow, does that ever resonate! Thank you, Muji. Consider that one stolen.
Hence the lurking ;)

Little things make big diffs in my strictly personal psycho management. Inaccurate details send my psychotic confusions into tailspins. Keeping my facts straight is harder than hard while I am under the influence of psychosis. Please don't ask me to decipher, much less process or defend the diffs between parenting and grandparenting or whatever psychic snot knot is the sponsor of this episode.
I think. At least that is a slim slice of what my strictly personal psychotic snot knots are babbling this morning. Sorting. . . Breathing. . .
I feel compelled to give soul beauty advice in the role of the eye doctor.
I try not to give advice otherwise. I just want to lift people up. I do it everyday.
Tho surprisingly some seem to read compassion as a weakness.
But I don't let that stop me. A smile and a wee bit of genuine love in the voice and eyes opens up the hurting. Who I often meet in my job.
They share their hurt burden and I share gently uplifting "advice". It's all on auto, I don't have to try. ....
They have been handful of of negative reactions. But my inner being says or isn't really me. Hope I'm not blind.
Intentions? Theyisms? Royal we's? Does I have to sort those in this condition?
