Hello all, quick question...
Long story short, I've been able in the past week or so to get my thinking pretty much back in bounds,
but my physiology is going completely haywire.
I'm in a heightened anxiety state constantly, heart pounding, sweating, distracted, unable to focus, crap memory, hair trigger anger...
In spite of deep breathing, pmr exercises, grounding, etc. I've actually been drinking just to have a calm few minutes a day, and if instead I take a pill to calm me, it barely helps, wears off shortly, and leaves me more anxious than before I took it.
I've got my mind settled, but my body is going crazy...
Help???
Love to all...and thanks.

I don't really know how to label this but I having a rough week and I can't say it's one thing.... I have a lot on my plate which is nothing new and I try to cope in many positive ways and do but I still have my moments. My kids more so my daughters talk to me about everything which I know it's cause of comfort and we are close.... however I really struggle with the venting about their dad which...

I can't help but think of the title of an old song:
It be's that way sometimes.
And it does.
Part of PTSD is that we get stuck in that "fight-or-flight" mode that -- in the days of dinosaurs -- helped us survive.
It still does, but ... in our case, the gas pedal can get stuck at full throttle for no GOOD evolutionary reason.
When my 'coping' mechanisms fail me -- and they do -- I just buckle up my seat belt, and tell myself that it's going to be a bumpy ride.
But then it will be over.
So far, it always has ... eventually been over.
Day by day.
Hour by hour.
One minute at a time.
Just do the best YOU can to get through it, and try to remember ... it WILL be over.
I wish you peace, health, strength, and ... calm.
I agree w/ what David wrote you as I too have anxiety disconnected from specific PTSD psychological stuff.
You know that drinking alcohol is not a good long term solution, but will just create a whole other mess you would then have to deal with.
Am not sure what anti-anxiety med you are on, but my first thought is you need to get that med reviewed w/ your doc and get it adjusted.
I take an anti-anxiety med on a ongoing basis and 1 dose stays in my blood stream for 8 hours. Also, I usually break the dose in 2 and take half every 4 hours so I don't get a see saw effect from it. For extra help my doc has given me a protocol for taking a little extra when I get an anxiety attack.
There are a variety of anti-anxiety meds out there and often it takes working with your doc to get the right med and dose. The meds may not completely eliminate the anxiety but will go a long way towards taking the edge off if you find the right one.
I truly hope you feel better soon.
very common anxiety symptoms, all these symptoms shows also on body, its not only emotional it comes with pain and bad body reaction too even when you have physicaly good health it still shows through the body too
since your mind is ok again but your body isnt, could be side effects from medications
i had one with risperdol, used it for 2y and out of nowhere get so restless for 2 weeks, couldnt stop walking around house, thought im going out of my mind
another one happened with serqouel
i dont know your situation, im just guessing and would like to suggest something if i know
since not knowing i can only suggest to go to your dr and talk about what is happening too you
Strength and calm.
Its worth a call, is what Im saying.
If you see your pdoc but still feel like theres a problem, maybe a trip to your general health doctor could help. Theres been a few times in my past where getting bloodwork done was the most helpful thing.
I deal with some really, incredibly intrusive anxiety without my medicine (my go to word for describing it is "paralyzing") and I definitely know that it can wreak havoc and make you panic. It was a while before I had a doctor that would get me on the right medicine and the right dosage. I do have a PRN but what helps the most is a high dosage of medication on a regular basis sort of as a pre-emptive strike. That and staying away from benzos.
I hope you start to feel better soon.
Keep us updated!
I was taken to ER last night. Thinking they have to hospitalize me. No! This is the fourth? fifth? time calling 911. Last night I was sent home with instructions "Call your Psychiatrist"
I was having a panic attack. That I definitely know. But I had good reason to. I have neuropathy. ,normally in my feet only. However, now I am numb in every extremity, including my whole face, throat, ears, ... my nose. I am basically considered handicapped. (sigh).
I know we need to accept right now what is happening this moment
I need something for anxiety, yet I fear it will make me worse physically. I do hope you get the right med. I am on a lot of pills. It is mainly for my muscles, nerves, and Bipolar, ptsd, ...etc.
Good luck to you! I thank God for ds!
I can understand the feeling. The panic is gone but the shakes are still there. Yesterday I had a panic attack that all the symptoms but the chest pain were gone after an hour or 2. I used my breathing, meditation and imagery exercises to get out of the attack. I had chest pain all day. I finally took my Xanax last night and the pain ended.
Sometimes we get hit with things that seem like they will never end. Just keep your mind in a calm place, use your meds (if you have then), and have patience. Don't give the symptoms too much attention- they will just last longer. Take it easy and things will get better.
A lot kale and collard green they have a lot of calcium......Remembering you are not your symptoms. And envisioning pleasent things.
Lately i focus on mental pics of something that i like.Like something i did or had that i loved doing.
Anyhow, my body has been taking hard blows-physically and emotionally. Its a journey. I am trying to pace myself and do what I can. It's a progressive and two steps back kind of thing. More than ever, paying attention to the body has been very, if not, intuitive.
