Part of my traumatic stress has to do with being ignored when I say 'no' to people and they just keep doing what they're doing. I have trouble with confrontation because of that.
I had a very positive experience yesterday when my neighbors were having a loud party out on their deck. They were drinking and cussing. It was keeping my wife and I awake. I went over and asked them to keep it down because we were trying to sleep. All 4 of them apologized and took the party inside for the rest of the night. It was a really friendly and cordial experience. I'm actually glad I got to 'meet' the new neighbors. I'm thinking about stopping by next weekend just to say hello. I'm going to tell my therapist about it on Tuesday.

With a pleasant confrontation, like what you describe here, I make it a point to deliver a token of gratitude soon after. Just a token. A plate of cookies, a jar of honey, veggies from the garden or some such. Good neighbors are priceless.
Thanks for the day brightener, Alan.
Good for you!
Oh, and Jewells, I will definitely take arfie's advice. I'll bring a block of fudge with me when I go over to say hi. I need to remember to pay close attention to the wisdom of arfie.
You guys are amazing.
Is that anything like Trump's social tolerance?
