I mentioned Doctor Brown in DoooO's "Tuesday Chit Chat" post. http://www.dailystrength.org/c/Post-Traumatic_Stress_Disorder/forum/20958951-tuesday-chit-chat
I started to post this ramble there and decided it would be rude for me to co-opt DoooO's thread for my personal blog. So here I go, on a separate Off Topic thread.
Doctor Brown's nest mate joined him/her in the sling this morning. I was working the old tomato and pepper plants to keep them hospitable for the front yard of the chick house. When I watered the bed, Doctor Brown's egg mate got drenched. Not a good thing to do to a 5 day old chick. I scooped her/him up and put him/her in the sling with Doctor Brown. I soon realized I that, in addition to not being able to tell a girl chick from a boy chick, I can't tell Doctor Brown from her/his nest mate. The other chick of the pair is doing better, but still incredibly fragile. The dousing knocked him/her off her/his feet pretty good.
The older chicks were all fast enough to get out of the way of the dousing. Adding the drips from the plants to the freshly worked soil beneath turned their front yard into a Happy Hunting Ground. I found myself naming them after great warriors who might have been promised a Happy Hunting Ground after their hard sacrifices in life. William Wallace. Vercingetorix. As Hags. Thor. Feel free to add your favorite pagan warrior to the Chick Namesake List. I currently have 18 chicks I feel compelled to name. I doubt any of them will ever answer to their names, so the name game is for us. Wanna play?
Over the course of finishing up the cultivation, one of the chicks jumped the sling. Enjoy, little one. I don't know if the chick still in the sling is the same one I was nursing yesterday, or not. I am still calling it, "Doctor Brown."
Thanks for the ramble space. Sometimes the distraction going Off Topic helps me deal more gracefully with the human follies which are the Normal Topics of this forum.
Doctor Brown is pecking the sling. I think that means, "Hungry." I am off to test the translation.

Used a different debit card and pulled apart everything looking for missing debit card before I left parking lot. Got home, dropped keys. So now I have a missing debit card, missing keys. A full cartload to unload and put away. I got everything put away.Dumped purse for a...

Enjoy the day, Arfie. :)
Think I just found round one of my reading material for the day. Reading goes so well with nursing. Thank you, Blue. What do you think? Could she have been the original "Red Haired Brat?" Gots 2 chick pairs that have orange down. Hm-m-m-m. . .
The other the Doctor Brown chick is back in the sling. Chirp chirp.
Xerxes, Darius, Tamerlane, Tuatha De, Penthesilea, Hua Mulan... Grazyna.... OK, I'm out of ideas without resorting to Google, and probably misspelled three or four, sorry..
Doctor Brown is stronger, but still too weak to navigate the pen. Her/his eyes are still crusted shut, making him/her effectively blind.
He/she has been riding in the sling since sunrise. I have been letting her/him sleep with the other chicks and evaluating His/her condition when the chicks tumble from the chick house.
Better, but still not well.
Whoever is carrying the task of forum enforcer this week should notify the proper authorities, forthwith. I will go quietly and plead guilty to Involuntary Fowlicide. Two counts. Doctor Brown is the second chick I have killed by stepping on it.
My chickens (adult and baby) lose all their species metaphors when I pull out my garden tools. The excitement of easy scratch with lots of juicy insects and worms to fight over. They would be a gardener's perfect pest controllers if they could be persuaded to see the beetle grubs as more beneficial than the earth worms. . . I don't think that is going to happen. When one of them scores a juicy earth worm, the entire flock ceases scratching and sets to chasing the chicken with the worm.
It was during such a chase scene when Doctor Brown slipped her sling, AMA, and . . . and . . . No excuse for it. . . I am a birdicidal maniac. And neither chick was big enough to eat. . . There is still a feather on my flip flop. . .
Wanna duel? Bet we could even sell tickets. I could use the income. . .
A celtic brat holding off the Roman legions? Sounds pretty bodacious to me. I vote we give her the word.
