Maybe not too off topic. I am trembling in the extreme. My morning started with observing a swarm in the corner of the bee yard. The swarm balled beneath one of the three original hives. For once, I followed my gut and went for the camera. My partner in hivery was texting his advice fast and furious. Major schizimations off that one. I put my camera away and started chasing my tail over which suggestion to follow first. The invading bee ball dispersed and the resulting hive agitation was off the richter scale of my bee knowledge. I ignored the incoming suggestions from Austin and went back for my camera. The partner couldn't take the ignoration and called while I was shooting the action. The bees attacked. I escaped unharmed, dealt with the partner and went back to shooting.
The action is still going out there. Thanks for letting me calm my nerves enough to get back to recording the event. Bees do rob one another. I think it is a robbery in action. Still not sure...

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

I wish I had something to offer practical, just so glad you're safe, keep filming and see what happens.... from a sfae distance, okay?
Gentle hugs and hums of peace,
Leo
By the way, I'm sure this is the last thing you are interested in right now, but the NY Times is supposed to have some honeybee video running on their website today. Science Times.
A hostile takeover was my first worry, too, but it looks like it developed into an attack on 3 hives. My money is on a robbing action.
I, too, am fairly ignorant about bees. It is a studied ignorance. My life long studies of herbs and wild plant life has given me a fairly intimate relationship with bees, but no more than with all the other critters who love gardens and wild herbs. My husband and I still don't share projects very well. The more he has plied his academic prowess to the science of beekeeping, the more studied my ignorance has grown. I ended up the one out here tending this action simply because I was the one with the time for it. My husband's IT management job keeps him pretty tied to Austin. We both want to learn how to share projects, so we are using it as a platform for that couple's therapy... We also dream of getting past his daddy's executive narcissism. Hence the gamble of placing the hives on his father's investment property.
Most days I am not sure what the real experiment here is...
If the rest of this falls through, we get to keep that growth in our relationship. At least, that is our shared prayer.
It's nice to hear about how the bee keeping thing is a good bond between hubby and yourself. I guess I didn't realize to what extent that was true until this thread today. How cool is that? :-)
