I have had continuous nightmares all night tonight. TW I have a crack head sister in law that is in the hospital because of psychotic episodes. The stress that puts on me is enormous. It causes my wife to struggle which in turn puts stress on me. I'm my wife's care giver. Most of the nightmares I don't remember. The bits of what I can remember are always drama related. I also have stress from our car needing repairs I can't do. The longer I try to write this, the more stressful things I think of. I tried to write a post last night but I was unsuccessful. My physical problems aren't helping either. I have neck and back problems that seem to get worse in times like these. I have a solution to the stress. I can smoke some pot. It's a great stress reliever. The problem with that is I don't live in a state where we have medical marijuana. Also I've been in AA for 32 years. Some people in AA think you're not sober if you use pot to help with ptsd, stress, pain management. For me I believe if you use for medicine and not about getting high it's ok. To thine own self be true. Well I guess I'm done ranting.

I don't really know how to label this but I having a rough week and I can't say it's one thing.... I have a lot on my plate which is nothing new and I try to cope in many positive ways and do but I still have my moments. My kids more so my daughters talk to me about everything which I know it's cause of comfort and we are close.... however I really struggle with the venting about their dad which...

I know folks (a few of them are AA) who think using any type of drug/medication is . . . insert judgement of preference here. . . There is no shortage of opines --pro and/or con-- on the subject. Opinions enough to equal collective chaos for all. I, strictly just-a-patient personal, go with your closing statement on the subject. "To thine own self be true."
Continued support while you juggle the load, Mack. Vent freely. Vent often.
Stress relief is needed, I have never had joy from it. Do you have coping skills to relieve it? Meditation, eating well, dancing, exercise or verbally talking to someone who understands? I might have missed it, are you in therapy? Being here has helped a ton and led me to valuable ideas and resources and talk therapy with the right person has been so very important. You get that immediate feedback.
As for the pot and AA.. I am not big on the AA groups or 'counselors'. I have oodles of experience with it because my sister is a schizoeffective meth addict, my dad and his twin were alcoholics- the twin died from it at age 42. I butt heads with the system constantly. I do like a lot of the original works of the program and what the big book teaches but... I think that addiction comes from inward hurt or trauma and therapy is key. I do not believe smoking pot is bad unless you are craving it and if that is the case then there are deeper problems. Old habits return and hence the name 'dry' if ya get my drift. I would say the pot is being used to substitute the better suited coping tools.
You were not asking for advice, so just giving my moneys worth hehe
