What is "music therapy" to you?
I started music therapy while the dinosaurs were still laying eggs. It was actually for my speech defect. Therapists were finding that music and language work from different brain centers. I was being trained to sing what I could not say. This simple beginning grew into using live tones of musical instruments to reach and speak places words cannot go.
Simply listening is a wonderful experience, but it is not therapy. My own music therapy is highly interactive. Even songs I steal have to be thoroughly self-customized to the wounded places of my psyche. When it does, the sonic resonance seems to massage psychic aches and give them healing comfort.
But that is me...

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
Love Can Build a Bridge

I'd like to see some more from other people, and I feel like I'm posting too much compared to other people. I don't want to dominate this thread.
I don't know if anybody likes mine, or if I should continue, or just let it go.
I'll just share a couple this morning. not sure if anybody will want to listen or like them.
Sometimes I need very soft and soothing music, when my nerves are jangled, like that first one on this whole thread, and sometimes I need an outlet for emotions, like that Caruso one, or drums. I often look to people as if I have no emotions, but it's because I have to try so hard to control them. People see me as very serious, maybe a bit hostile in attitude. The music helps me safely vent.
Here are some Spanish language ones that are beautiful expressions of emotion that are often lacking in English music:
Marco Antonio Solis - Amor en Silencio (Love in Silence)

Sometimes it's better to just be quiet, and in that silence is Love, when words just would only make things worse, and sometimes we learn more when we are quiet. Sometimes in silence is patience and forgiveness.
Luis Miguel - Te Extranyo (I Miss You)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9dx-jEnz3A
I miss you, like the night sky would miss the stars,
I miss you, when I walk, when I cry, when I laugh,
oh, how I miss you, in each step that I take, feeling so alone.
I miss you... with your virtues and your errors,
--------------------------
It's very hard for me to share feelings, especially to miss someone, but I can play this and cry my eyes out. I think it's part of the grief work of PTSD. Truly PTSD music therapy
Amor Eterno

first he dedicates the song to all the mothers, and to the ones way back in the audience.
You are the sadness of my eyes, and the crying in silence for your love. I look at myself in the mirror at my face, ...
I've suffered a lot because of your goodbye, and am always thinking about the past. I prefer to be asleep rather than awake. It hurts me so much that you are not...
How I wish that you were alive...
Eternal Love, and unforgettable, ...
But sooner or later we will be together again, and loving each other.
I've suffered much in your absence ...
and even though my conscience is clear I know I could have done more for you
Dark loneliness is what I have, the same dark loneliness as in a tomb,..
Eternal Love, eternal,..
Loneliness is all I have, and your memories...
anguish, and pain,,
but the italians will not be outdone in this genre.
Senza Mama (without mama) is a classic. I won't translate it, but it's the same idea

I posted here, too, that for the first time in many, many years in my recovery now I've had my first good dreams again in the last couple of months, so the chorus of the song that says "I dreamed I was flying/I dreamed I was free" really spoke for me today. Good music therapy.
hah and that brings me to a segue. I Belive I Can Fly. A friend of mine liked this song, and I was too 'realistic' and down at the time to appreciate it, but he said it was encouraging to him.

Milla, peaking of contexts for music, a cathedral in France would be divine. I went to this year's Christmas Day service at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC and it came close, I suppose, but a cathedral in France would be the ultimate. :-)
