My name is Liam. I am 22. I am transgender. I just got left by my girlfriend of 3 years. I know it is unhealthy but she was my lifeline. I have experienced sexual abuse from my dad since I was 8. While I was with my girlfriend my PTSD seemed to be under control. I felt like I could function without needing too much support throughout the day. I wasn't having flashbacks or night terrors. And all that has flooded back overwhelmingly since we broke up. I am feeling really really scared and alone, and I am looking for support to stay healthy and not use self harm to cope with my extreme feelings right now. Any kind of support would be helpful I think. I just feel so hopeless.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

I find that my stress impacts (to some extent) my flashbacks and night terrors. Rather than combating my fears I focus on the things I can control and that helps me feel better (and lessens my anxiety and worries). I rearrange the rooms in my house, I pick something and clean it... for me, given the nature of my night terrors, I think what I really lacked at the ages I was hurt is control. Physically manifesting control over my current surroundings helps me greatly an might be something to consider?
I haven't been 22 in a while (I'm 28), but I also have a history of unhealthy relationships I didn't leave when I should have.
You are in a good, supportive place now and we are here for you. I am proud of you for making the step to come here and seek out help, and I will be sending you positive thoughts and prayers as you sort through this.
I'm not transgender either, but I am asexual (Reaction to coming out was mostly "That's a thing?". Could be worse.) and if asked I'd identify as androgynous. I behave more like a guy than a woman though I definitely don't mind being (biologically) female, but I think I'd be just as comfortable in a male body as I am in my female one.
There are a lot of people with a history of sexual abuse here (though luckily I'm not to be one of them) and everyone is very kind and supportive. Had my initial PTSD diagnosis with about 6 1/2 and more shit happening aggravated it, though by now I'm used to dealing with it.
I'm sorry to hear about your breakup but yeah, that could cause stress that worsenes your symptoms. Stress and PTSD are a bad combination.
I hope you'll find the support you need here, I certainly have.
I'll spare my song and dance of my woes to get to the heart of it:
You're in grief. Grief is pain. Pain triggers PTSD. It's okay to feel lousy. It's not wrong of you, and it's normal for new pain to bring back old pain. We get programmed, when traumatized, to expect *any* pain to be *that* kind of pain. To take *that* much from us. So all new pain can trigger us into *that* mode. (Or so I am told.)
A few months ago, my beloved mother and I became estranged because she is, essentially, aging and angry and became hostile to me over my PTSD. It really unsettled me. My whole life before, she'd been a support. Now? No. It's taken a tremendous toll on me. Grieving for my loss of our relationship has been exhausting.
So.... from where I'm at? So glad you came here ot reach out, we're here. Healing hopes to you.
Finding co-healers I can lean on will helped me learn the diff between healthy love and a "lifeline." Studying on the diff has saved my marriage (35 years) more than once. Hope you can find such healing companionship here.
I am kinda jealous of your "Transgender" status. Just kinda. I have an androgynous appearance that lets me pass myself off as a guy with ease (sometimes unintentionally) and I even enjoy the game, but. . . Nobody lets me get away with calling myself, "Transgender." I know, I know. . . Not the same thing, at all, but jealousy is not a rational emotion. Sigh. Do I really have to be human?
Flashbacks and night terrors are hot topic here. Sharing about them freely is the best remedy I have found for my own. Something about putting them into words helps settle my nerves.
Welcome aboard. Hope you can find a co-healer(s) who can loan you some hope until you find your own.
