I can't take much more of this

I have ptsd from a Sexual assault while I was in the US Air Force. It happened in 1978. I didn't start treatment until about 3 years ago. I was going to the VA. I've taken all of the groups I can. I went to the vet center and did some 1 on 1 counseling but it retraumatized me. Today I would love to lay down and die. I'm not going to do anything to try to take my own life but I wish I could have a massive heart attack and die.

Well, our drought isn't broken but our gutter is. Got two big storms rigth after each other and, wait for it, a tornado warning. Now, I was already running for my go-bag when I heard thunder. The air felt wrong. The sky was getting a color to the west. Been there, lived that, time to hide.No funnel touched down but the radar indicated rotation, and boy was it visible from the ground. Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

If the VA isn't cutting it, have you tried other counseling?
RAINN hotline number might be a place to start.
800.656.HOPE (4673)

And of course, of course, you're welcome to post on here.
How long does it take someone to respond? That all depends. Sometimes there are people on, sometimes not (you really can't go by the number listed "online"...some of those may be talking with friends, writing journals, or forgot to log off...who knows).
I hope that you come back,
Heartfelt hugs, Patti
I have tried the VA but it wasn't good enough and like you the counseling at the vet center retraumatized me. Now I have a counselor outside the VA and it's much better. Have you tried going outside the VA yet?
i hope you will feel included with us as you are now one of us. you are not alone here, you've got us now, gentle hugs xo
there are men here as well who have been assaulted as you have.
there is a website that i have heard about especially for men who have been sexually assaulted and the website is
www.1in6.org
they have a free online support group there too - so you can also go to that group if you wanted to, as well as here.
it is good that you are able to know your current comfort zone and work within it.
this stuff takes time. like grief work. nobody can define anyone else's way or time line, it takes as long as it takes and the way it takes.
i'm grateful that you were able to find this place and the courage it took to speak here. i remember when i found here. it was difficult to type the first words/any words.
