FF TW Neurologist appointment
mujicaptsd
This is a difficult issue to bring up here, as a guy. FF and TW.
I haven't had a date in 5 years, and I don't plan to. 4 years ago I got diagnosed with kidney failure from PTSD meds. The kidney damage was caught so late, though, that it caused a lot of neuropathy and did a lot of permanent nerve damage in my extremities. I have some damage to my hands, and a lot of damage to my legs from the shins down.
It also damaged my physical ability for, um, to put it as politely as possible, (FF and TW again) intimacy.
I'm single, having been divorced since 2000 after 10 years of marriage. Yet I don't feel as tragic about it as I thought I would. I'm just grateful that the disease hasn't progressed to forcing me to have dialysis 3 times a week for 3 hours a session. (FF and TW once again). The thing is that my guy friends at work really don't want to believe me that I'm ok with my celibacy in the light of how much worse things could be. They keep trying to set me up with women co-workers. Today I spent the afternoon with them, and it was the topic all afternoon. Har har har.
I love these guys and need friendship with them more than I need any remedy for celibacy. I'm just tired of not being believed by them. And I have explained. It's my business, right? I'm very busy in other areas of my life right now, like keeping my job these 4 years even with PTSD symptoms while due to kidney damage I can no longer take meds for them.
I just wanted to speak my piece here. This is an audience that might actually let my version of how I feel stand. I guess that makes this a rant. I hope it hasn't offended anybody. I see the neurologist tomorrow about it again, and he's going to tell me the irreversible extent of my nerve damage again, so it's on my mind. If I've been able to accept it every time so far for 4 years, why not my friends?

It's that whole manliness=sexual prowess thing, I guess?
And women doing the same thing are slutty...HMM!
You have great courage and character, that's what matters.
If the ability to be sexual really was a big loss? Implants are apparently spiffy.
...I was told a story about a fellow who had the balloon implant...and...um, he became quite popular with the local 50-something ladies.
Implants are very reliable.
I am not at all certain that single gender groups are even capable of sexual intelligence. I believe that, by definition, a single gender group can only access half of the direct data. (Well. . . Reckon I need some disqualifiers for the Gay Community, but ignorance prevents. There I have zero access to the direct data. No disrespect intended. Just a fact. I ain't what I ain't.) When I listen to a group of women friends going down this line, I just let it be and wait patiently for the next conversation topic. (How many men do I really need to understand, anyway? I find it much simpler to take them one at a time. Plural humanity confuses me.) But. . . I don't have to put up with that matchmaking biz. . . Gnarly business, that one, whether in the girl's locker room or the boy's locker room. Good time to remember that, "No." is a complete sentence that can be delivered with loving respect.
Glad your neurology tests came back on the happy side.
arfie, thanks for adding the idea that these dopey conversations are, from your experience, a same sex conversation thing and not soley a guy thing. Yeah, I like the idea of waiting until the conversation topic shifts, usually to cars or sports--or where I live, both at once: NASCAR!
Methinks we are all on this crazy carnival ride together, whether we like it or not. Not even the most zealous of religious isolationists get to avoid the other gender entirely.
Besides, the iconoclastic purists keep calling me, "Manly," even though I don't follow sports. Engines are another story, though. Zoom zoom. . . Been known to fix engines in designer evening gowns. Left the heels in the car. . .
As I told SunCloud earlier, I had a better day with those guys today. After being here I was a little more assertive about my point of view. It happens over and over again, that when I bring up something on DS PTSD I do better out there in my real life. Honestly. Wow.
So today I had a better day for it and I thank you and everybody here for it.
I don't think it's strange at all for someone to choose celibacy, or to be celibate for whatever reason.
I'm at a point, I'm 56, where I don't want sex or a relationship. I am OK with this. For the longest time in my life, I really wanted a boyfriend, something serious. It was a deep longing.
Now, I still have that part of my mind which scans the horizons for a possible mate, but I'm really happy alone..
I have a full life, and good friends, and my cat family.
For me, my desire to live alone and without sex is all from past experiences.
Anyway, Muji, good luck with this.
I decided to just stay away from any intimate relationships, after being abused in every single one of them, -minus one actually, for most of my life since age 22 and thank goodness I had him - the minus one, but I know hindsight is better than foresight. If I hadn't been abused as a child and teenager I would have made a much better healthier lifestyle for myself than I did in my choices.
I am dealing with nerve damage that could possibly have been caused from psych meds or whatever...idk exactly yet, but I do understand where you are coming from Muji. I'm very happy that your appointment went well too!
