Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
But yes, you are both hurting each other. This is something that will not just fix itself. There needs to be communication about it.
That said, it is critical that each person accept responsibility for their actions. In addition to accepting responsibility for actions, it is extremely important to then follow through and get whatever help is warranted. Based on what you've said here, my suggestion is to get into INDIVIDUAL therapy asap with a qualified trauma release counselor. Like most of us here, it sounds like you have some old, as well as current, trauma related issues to resolve and heal. Therapy shouldn't be about blame. It's about healing.
It is NOT advisable to do couples therapy. It won't work at this point. imho, your husband should be in individual therapy too. BUT, he needs to see a different counselor who is NOT in the same group as yours. However, you cannot make him do anything. No matter what, its important for your peace of mind and well being that you find a good counselor.
Work/focus on yourself. And practice extreme self-care.
Here are a couple of links to other discussions that offer some suggestions for self-care (1st 2 and finding a good therapist (3rd).
