Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

It happened on 2/14/20. He stayed the night at the sitters like he had so many times before because I had plans on 2/13. When I dropped him off...he was himself. Happy. Everything about that day was like any other.
That night while out of town...he got sick. He had thrown up at her house before and acted lethargic after...so I just assumed it would be like the last time and he'd recover. She let me know she would notify me if anything changed.
The next morning I woke up, about to message her that I would come get him soon...only to find a missed call and from her. I asked her if everything was okay, and she simply replied, "NO!" The next thing that happened was I got a phone call from a number I didn't recognize. I answered to find her daughter in law on the phone.
She said, "Zero passed away last night."
All I can remember after that is yelling and asking "what do you mean?!" Over and over until I had to hang up and call family and friends...because I was in shock and didn't know how to react.
He was a 5 year old Australian Shepherd. I thought I had another 5-10 years that I could spend with him before I had to accept that one day I'd have to tell him goodbye. Ill never know what happened to him...as when I got to see him...he just looked like he was sleeping. When I saw his body...I just held him and cried until they took him away to be cremated.
I guess the issue I'm having is it still feels like sometimes I just need to pick him up at the sitters. Today was my first day back to work, however, and the entire day was filled with nothing but tears and sadness. Whenever I've been sad in the past, Zero was always there to give me kisses till I stopped crying. He was my main support with my recent MS diagnosis in October 2019, and I needed him way more than he needed me.
He really was my everything and I really don't know how I'm ever going to move on or even accept it fully that I'll never see him again.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I lost my Tucker in June that was not expected. He had been sick. He was not able to move much. I confined him in area of kitchen in his bed. He died during the night he was having troubles breathing. I couldnt afford to take him to ER and he was older fellow who had this happen before where he couldnt move so I thought it was another slipped disk.
Terribly sorry you lost Zero! All I can say is Im sorry.
I got another doggie friend for my older Shep now and she runs the roost.
Time will heal the heart some with this but it never goes away. Hugs bill
I’m just so hurt because he was so full of life. The only thing I can think of is that his heart was just way too big for this world and must have gave out on him in his sleep. I just miss him so much and wish he were here when I need him.
