Anyway the newest device is called an NTI-tss (tension suppression system) and is less invasive than the older mouthguards...
The newest ones are like little splints that slip on to your front teeth so you can't actually quite close your jaw and grind. I haven't tried this yet - it was quite expensive from memory - but it looks like it would be more comfortable than the whole plate.
