i was only diagnosed may last year and the pain did not really start in earnest untill about november of that year. at first it was intermitent and didnt really start till late evening now it is pretty much all the time. but having said that on monday of this week i woke up and felt great, no pain untill about 10.30pm and then quite mild, the next day started similar but by 4.00pm the pain was back with avengence.
i am not sure about athers i am interested to find out myself but for me even a few hours in the day is a bonus.

I can only wish you the best if your having this happen. I've been dealing with constant unrelenting pain for close to three years, and my only relief from it is when I get enough pain medication on board to mask the pain for a few hours which is why I've started the process to get a pain pump implanted in me. If yours is giving you some down time then God bless. I hope you have many more days pain free!!!

I had a pain free period of 8 years from my first attack of pancreatitis and screaming pain that lasted several months. Did not stay on the diet or try and manage the pancreas at all until 8 years later and my 2nd screaming attack that eventually led to a diagnosis of CP. I am now in 2 1/2 years of daily constant pain, and wish I had taken better care of myself for those 8 years....just saying, don't drop your vigilance and strict low fat diet.

Mine used to be attacks. Every day... until my gallbladder was removed. Then I only had attacks every few months. That went on for 20 years. Then it was a constant pain. But weirdly, the pain is less... but constant.

Still trying to figure it all out.

I am blessed I am not in constant pain. I can go days without it but I do end up in the hospital at least 6 times a year with overwhelming pain. I cannot find a correlation as to why I become pain free and how to keep it that way.

I was reading an article which said that some specialists are recommending low dose daily antibiotics, has anyone heard of this? Also that they are looking into stem cell research to repair the pancreas?

Thank you Deb24 for the kind wishes and I as you wish for an end to my pain, though at this point I'm beginning to wonder if there is only one way to end my pain and I don't believe in going that way, anyway was in the er again last evening and part of the night, got a couple of dilaudid(sp) injections 2mg each which calmed the pain enough my own meds could catch up so went home instead of checking into hospital, bit mistake! I've often wondered about the antibiotics since my first acute attack had me hooked up to several different antibiotics, but no one since has even mentioned antibiotics. I realize most doctors don't know alot about cp but hell if they know antibiotics help even s little why aren't we all on them??? I guess that is all off subject but I do tend to rambell on often.......:-) Troy

To me the antibiotics make sense as , if the pancreas is breaking down the dead cells must cause infection/inflammation, maybe you ask your specialist about it. I truly feel for you, have you had any of the nerve block injections I have read about? I think the trouble is doctors/ people can't see pain, if we had a limb having off they would be oh my that must be so painful! But ours is hidden inside.,
I hope that something can be found to help us all.

hi i am new here,1st time writing in . after reading all of your comments i know that i am not alone,i was diagnosed with cp a year ago, i have had nerve block inj, spinal cord stimulator and pain pump, they failed on me but i heard from others that they worked wonderful for them 90% success rate, i hope if any of you are going that way it will take your pain away. i have had 6 operations putting stents in pancreatic/bile ducts had a couple days of relief but then pain came back twice as bad.so glad that some of you have had times when pain free ,i will pray for you all

Steffer, you said you've had all the pain relief procedures including the pain pump and it didn't work for you either? Did they do a test run prior to implanting the pump or is this when it failed for you? I'm being so nosy because I'm being scheduled for a pain pump trial after the celiac plexis block, and neuro stimulator both failed. Just want to make sure I'm not heading for more dissapointment! I do hope your getting adequate oral medicines. Be well and pain free...Troy

I have a few good days. But never without the pain even if its a dull stabbing pain its always there. Hope this helps. Have a painless day.

Since I have been eating low fat and taking antioxidants and papaya enzymes my pain is less but never goes away.

troy i sent you an earlier message , i did want to let you know that i am on oral pain meds but my days are up and down , i have been in pain for 16 months now and when i read that you have been in pain for 3 years and some more ,i dont know if i can take it,i have lost so much already and thank god for this post cuz nobody around me knows what it is like to be in constant pain when you curl up in a ball and cry ,hugs to all, i am new to this and havent learned how to send the hug symbols yet, not computer smart

hi thanks for the tip deb, i had read that somewhere else about the antioxidants and enzymes,the low fat diet i am trying to do but for a person who has never watched a single thing she has eaten her entire life is an adjustment ,but worth trying and doing ,i was wondering if anyone has more pain when they stand up and walk around ,i do thank you so much take care

hi troy, yes they did do a 3 day trial for the pain pump, i have been told that i am a difficult case so please dont allow what has happened to me make you lose faith, with the pain pump just be careful of the medication, they gave me an overdose and i lost use of my left leg for 6 hours, they also screwed up on scs setting were wrong and had uncontrollable violent movement of my legs, previous nurse had set wrong, i guess i am just one of the lucky ones, i pray that you ar ein the 90% that gets pain relief and have a strong feeling of this to be true take care, thanks to all for letting me know that there are people out there just like me
