So, I reached my all time high:231
When I weighed myself, I thought I would still be in my 220s- but I wasn't.
I've been walking every day, but I can't seem to control my portions.
I just want to eat, eat, eat.
Plus, my aunt told me at my christmas party "Our family has a history of diabetes on both sides"
So, now I'm paranoid *I* am going to have it.
My Grandma has it, and she's not even overweight!
What do you think I should do to cut down my portions?
Eating has always been something I enjoyed doing, and I can't seem to break the habit!
Please, I want to stop being a size 18 anymore and having huge, flabby arms. My belly is already bigger than my boobs!
I really need this support group to motivate me!
any suggestions would be lovely.

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...

They also make lite 100 cal portions of microwave popcorn.
Try to stay away from breaded, greasy, processed foods.
Hope that helps some.
I'm now 187. I still struggle with portion control, but I have much fewer anger, boredom, and depression related binges. You may not have the same emotional struggles I have, but it may be worth taking some time for self-reflection to determine what is behind your desire to overeat.
My daughter's doc basically looked at the history she filled out and said "Honey, you're screwed!" (This doc's a hoot and a good one - she has a sense of humor too. Don't find a combo like that much!)
Anyway, seriously tho, a history is just that. It means you could be more succeptible than the norm, but is not a guarantee. Just eat more fresh produce and lean proteins and some good carbs and you'll be onto a great start. Add your favorite exercise like dancing to your favorite music in your living room or enjoy some chair or floor yoga and you'll feel better too.
You look and sound like a strong young woman (from prev posts & this one too). I know you can succeed.

It will help to try and be as healthy as you can, whatever that means to you. There is no guarantee this will prevent you developing type 2 diabetes, but if you do develop it it may make it easier to manage and will make you feel better in yourself day-to-day. But if you struggle that does not make you a failure or a bad person, just human.
I have type 1 diabetes (the one where the pancreas stops producing insulin completely and you must inject insulin instead, for the rest of your life, unrelated to weight). This means I may develop all kinds of horrible complications. And yes, that does scare me. But you just have to put it to the back of your mind, or it will drive you crazy with worrying.
The best thing to do is speak with a doctor, and get yourself checked. You could also ask for dietary guidance from a medical professional. It could be that you are doing fine and it is only your perception that you are eating too much, and it is important to get this checked with a health professional before cutting back. If you are doing more exercise your body may need the extra energy. But maybe you are not eating foods which nourish your body and give it what it needs - it is very complicated. Maybe instead of simply cutting back you need to eat different foods, or eat smaller and more frequent meals for example.
If you need help from us non-medically qualified but variously experienced types, I think we need more information. How fast are you walking? A gentle stroll or quick enough to leave you a little breathless? And how far? I think the recommendation is to go quick enough to be a little breathless but able to carry on a conversation.
And what are you eating, when and where? Is there a particular food or food group you binge on, and could you substitute that for something else, at least on some occasions? What foods do you enjoy? Is there a way of incorporating other foods into your diet, maybe by hiding them in a dish you like which is strongly flavoured? Use herbs and spices to disguise vegetables you may not be keen on and generally make your diet more flavourful.
Why do you overeat? Is it habit, or emotional triggers? If so what are the emotions? Could you avoid these triggers somehow? Would counselling help?
@Jenalone
I actually like fruits and veggies. But, someone hardly buys them for me(don't have a job and going to school full time)
@serentity I never thought of gradually changing my diet week-by-week! That sounds easier than to over-analyze how I'm going to lose weight.
@caparina You're under the 200s! That's something I've been wanting for the past 2 years! I have emotional struggles too(bipolar) . I don't know why I overreact..I've gained 100 pounds in the past 6 years...it's just seems "normal" for me to keep gaining weight but NOW it's way too much. What my aunt said was a slap in the face.
@isteele48 thank you for your compliments! I hope I succeed too.
@lizzie, I need to seriously think over your questions. I think if I figure that out, it'll help me the most.
Again, thank you ALL for the advice!
