Narcolepsy Support Group
A sleep disorder (somnipathy) is a disorder in the sleep patterns of a person or animal. Some sleep disorders can interfere with mental and emotional function. If you are having trouble falling asleep or having some other kind of sleep disturbance, this group is for you.
I have had N for at least 10 years that I can remember. About 6 years ago this horrible pain in my upper spine started and has not gone away...like an injury, but I didnt injur myself. I have dont tons of stuff to make this pain stop and nothing helps, meds, massage, hellerwork, rolfing, resting...nothing. I have had Drs tell me it may be fibro, but here is my theroy (my sleep Dr tells me this is reasonable, though not provable). I think that not resting, sleeping, getting proper rest, whatever N is for you is so hard on your body. Your nerves dont rest, your mussles and tendons and things cant rest and recover from the day. I think that over time not resting makes our bodys mad and they revolt against us and cause pain. It just reacts differently in different people, just like N does.
I think that after years and years of not sleeping and not listing to my body saying "slow down and get some help so I can sleep" that is caused this pain in my spine to give me another reson to stop, a sign that something was wrong and needed to be addressed.
one of the meds i was taking (i'm working on starting it again), helped both conditions. it was ambien, a sleeping pill. it made my sleep more restorative so i wasn't quite as tired. my body had time to repair itself so i wasnt' in as much pain either. i still needed other meds but it did help out alot.
studies have been done where people were purposely sleep deprived. each time they went to sleep, they were woken right before they reached the deep sleep stage. after a few days of this, these people began presenting with the symptoms of fibromyalgia.
