Are you sure you can't get treatments. The expensive treatments may not be given but the treatments I am on now most likely will be covered.
Plasmapherisis or IVIG which are rediculously expensive may not be necessary. Cellcept or predisone, I think will be covered.

I am 65 and was diagnosed with MG at the age of 5. Fortunately, for me it remained in my left eye for 60 years......going in and out of remission across the years. It has not bothered me much in the past several years but about 10 days ago it attacked my right eye.

I am 59...diagnosed at age 55.

So far as I know we range from 3 to 80, I am almost 66 and one of the older members. My father developed MG at eighty and lived to eighty seven. Although his doctor was not very aggressive with his treatment, he did have several plasma exchanges when his MG became most severe. He died from renal failure, MG, and depression. The lack of aggressive treatment seems to be more related to the doctor than my father's age as he was extremely conservative with mine as well. I found another neuromuscular specialist who is managing my care. b.

I think many of us had symptoms but wee unable to get diagnosed and quit for a while. I was diagnosed last year when I was 70 but had symptoms for at least 25 or more. Certain things like I never could stnd let alone walk on my heels. Other neuroligical things. had blurred double vision for at least 25 years and swallowing problems since I was a child.I will be 71 in a few weeks and consider myself doing fine unless my stupidity and stubborness take over like they did this weekend. Sure had a great time while it lasted tho.

I am 68 diagnosed at 67. Being agressively treated and no problem with SS or secondary paying.

Lots of good advice here.
There are some people here, who have been through the MG wringer. There's not much they haven't learned, in the way of useful tips.

The most important tip?
People with MG - have a wide variety of symptoms.
(MG's nickname is the ''Snowflake Disease'', right?)
(Each individual - is different.)

But there is also - a lot in common.
Hope - and a positive attitude, also being right up at the top.

I first noticed symptoms, 11-years ago.
Was diagnosed, almost 5 years ago.
Only received full & correct diagnosis - and treatment - 3 yrs ago.

I'm 59, but somedays my wife says: I'm all of 10!

We thank all of you. It is very enlightening to hear everyone's story. Here is a sum-up of Gordon's long road:

His problems began before I knew him in 1979, when he was robbed and beaten, and left with a letter opener embedded in his neck. This nicked his spine and left him with pain and disabilities (Brown-Sequard syndrome).
Then in 1991 he had kidney cancer and lost one kidney. 1995 had a fall at work which required spinal fusion and plates in his neck. 1997 he had bladder cancer. Took BCG treatments and was clear. 1999 diagnosed with Myelodysplasia and started on Procrit. Some other stuff was tried, but failed. 2007 diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. 2008 mass discovered by spine (just recently checked and is not growing). 2011 developed Atrial Fib. Also is in stage four of kidney failure. He also has diabetes, high blood pressure and has had cataract and partial knee replacement surgery.

Thanks for your welcoming messages. In answer to some questions, we are in an HMO. His Neuro just hasn't suggested any of the mentioned treatments. Now that we are here and learning we can ask her about them. With all his other ailments and meds, it is hard for them to find things that don't make other things worse. He is, at least, able to be up and around, but uses a can and does use a scooter when he goes out.
