Many patents with myasthenia are finding medical marijuana is a helpful treatment. Has been proven to be helpful. Anyone tried, please reply.THANKS!

In previous discussions several folks said that as marijuana is a muscle relaxant, it didn't help them with MG.

If i had it available for medical usage in NY I would at least give it a try. Definitely would not smoke it because of possible breathing issues, but the edible variety would be an option. If it works, it couldn't be worse than high prednisone doses. Here is some research.

I had read somewhere (I don't remember where) because it relaxes the muscles. And with MG, we don't need any more relaxation in our muscles, which may already be week. I haven't tried it.

To me the fact that the State of Illinois specifically includes MG in their law gives me some reason to believe it may help. Since the disease is relatively rare, there must of been a good reason to include it. Or maybe a state rep. has MG and just wanted some pot....Who knows???

My MG came on after years of cannabis use. I don't think it brought on the MG and it doesn't seem to help alleviate MG symptoms.

I have tried several types. In my case I do not find that it either helps or worsens my MG condition. To be clear, no adverse effects as some medications cause (antibiotic sent me to the emergency room for 3 days). However, as mentioned in another post the drug does relax you (as does alcohol in some people) -- a central nervous system depressant. So if you are having trouble breathing or with movement you probably don't want to use either one. I have seriously reduced my intake of alcohol as I find that a little goes a long way. A neurologist told me pretty much the same thing -- not prohibited, but not recommended either.

I smoked before diagnosed with MG. I have found that cannabis does not effect me negatively as to MG. What cannabis does help with is the side effects of Mestinon. My immune system is very strong but does not like to be screwed with. What I mean by that is , if I cut myself , I will have a healing scab in 3 days. I can't remember the last time I had a cold and I have never had the flu or any type of viral disease. What my immune system does do is give me heavy scare tissue and when it is suppressed , it reacts violently. When given Mestinon , it overreacts and I suffer from strong muscle cramps and muscle spasms. Diarrhea , digestive issues etc. Cannabis seems to relive these symptoms and help with appetite. I have not suffered any adverse side effects as of yet. I have smoked on and off for 25/30 years. I would NOT recommend to anyone to do something they are not comfortable with and without doing research but I would also say keep and open mind as I have found MG is a personal disease and identical twins with MG could have totally different symptoms. Found what works for you.
