Spasms

I am in a study for a new medication for people with SPMS. I went to have a MRI ( I have had dozens before) and I had such bad spasms that they could not complete the scan. I was told it is a newer and more sensitive machine and any movement throws it off. I now have to take Valium before they try again.

Has any one had this problem during an MRI?

Always. I have to take Klonapin -- otherwise the cold makes me jerk, the movement of the table makes me jerk, the muffled drumming makes me jerk ...and lying completely still makes me go into one giant spasm (Upright and walking around in the real world I look perfectly fine, though!) I find that warm blankets, if they have them, help -- and I always ask them to put the line in (it's plastic) for the contrast before they start the MRI, instead of when they pull me out to inject it.

One time the tech yelled at me because my (closed) eyes were jerking -- there's only so much I can do here, lady!

Yes.. one time I didn't take medicine and they almost had to make me reschedule. Valium doesn't help me enough though, I take mirapex.

In the beginning.... I took the valium. Then I remembered to use relaxation breathing. I know your situation is more severe than that... Have you started taking magnesium citrate? It's the only thing the calms my spasms and I wouldn't be without it.

Thank you all for your comments! Lorrie I take magnesium but not one with citrate. I shall try that . Thank you!

Good news! No more spasms! I took a Valium before my MRI! Passed with flying colors. One more test tomorrow before the study begins!!
Can't wait to see if this study will help people like myself who have SPMS!

    I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital.  I don't think that we will have her much longer.  She is very frail.  Now she needs help eating.  So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying.  I think crying releases toxins into my body.  I also worked up a sweat at the gym...
