I have been looking everywhere trying to find an answer to my question; How much exercise do we need to do to avoid atrophy?
I haven't been going out much, temporarily unemployed and all with an excrutiating 20 stairs to my apartment. I thought I could get away with not going out and walking randomly by doing my yoga, walking up the 40 steps to the roof, and pedals at home (I pedal maybe 20 to 40 min a day).
But today I went to a job interview, and decided to walk home. It was about 6 blocks and took me. . . a long time. And this time I noticed one of the thigh muscles (the GOOD one) was screaming! (Normally I take ages to get places but my muscles don't seem to be the problem.)
Help, give me some advice or info!

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

i got lipotrophy from Avonex shots that sucks out fat. looks like atrophy but it isnt.
could be you are having a relapse. hope it gets better soon.
You are probably deconditioned and losing muscle bulk. As a physical therapist put it, every day you 'lie in bed' for example you lose 3 % of your muscle strength. In 30 days its gone.
That's how fast it can happen.

A good treatment is aqua therapy.

i cannot walk 6 blocks. you are doing fine.
Like I said, I am paranoid because of what my sister said those years ago, plus I notice that when I haven't walked anywhere for awhile, I can feel my muscles complaining for some hours once I do walk anywhere. I did used to go to a gym, so it is not an unfamiliar experience. (Ezone- unfortunately I WOULDN'T say I can walk 6 blocks anymore. I think it took me over half an hour, and I had to rest a LONG TIME at the bottom of the stairs before tackling the 20 up to my apartment.)
