These are always sensitive subjects, aren't they? I don't have the affordable healthcare but I know someone who is very grateful to have at least something. Even with the plan I do have, I just don't like the feel of it. For so long, I was able to choose a PPO plan, and adjusting to the HMO has been difficult for me. I really hate having to call the primary care for a referral to a specialist I've been seeing for a long time... Just don't like the feel of someone "controlling" my health issues...

I don't have Obamacare, I'm on my husband's plan. I do know of several people with MS that use Obamacare and the plan they chose as a supplement to Medicaid. and are pleased. However my on-laws, who are racial, tried to get Obamacare when my FIL retired and my MIL insisted it was too expensive. but she is the only person I heard that from. I can't get into politics right now because it usually leads to heartache.

Right, so based on what you both have told me, the situation is still dire!? I have relatives at home who were trying to convince me I should move back, and shrugged off my concerns with it being way too expensive. At the moment, I take 5 diifferent drugswhich cost me 50 here. I think there it would cost me at least 10X more.

Anne ... the economics in the US are NOT dire. You would be able to make it. Obamacare does have low priced health options.

2 of the MS meds I take; Techfidera & Ampyra, have programs that allow u to have little or not out of cost expense. Many MS meds have this option

Anne - Totally depends on the State you live in, assets you have and if you qualify for SSDA/SSI. You would best advised by an estate attorney. If you have assets and a living parent I''d advise setting up a special needs trust.

My medicare benefits have gotten cuts from the affordable care act, thanks to obama. I really have to be careful, and I cannot afford all of the co pays that go with the doctor visits. I don't qualify for medicare because I worked for a living, what was I thinking???? I don't think obamacare is the answer. It is a start, because out medical system was messed up before him. But, I think another overhaul needs to be done.

If your drugs here will only be ten times more, only 500 dollars your will being doing wonderfully since most of the crabs cost 5K a month here without help. Many of us do not qualify for the extra help that drug companies offer. I think maybe we should move over to Spain with you. :)

Anne, you ask the question about as sensitively as anyone could. The politics largely aside, for a situation like you are describing, the Affordable Care Act did comparatively very little.

What the Affordable Care Act did for MS patients was make it easier to change insurance companies, since there pre-existing conditions exclusions are no more. However, we are seeing premium increases greater than was the case pre-ACA, medical deductibles have increased markedly for many people, and drug co-pays are increasing, albeit not as fast as premiums. Coverage for treatments other than for disease modifying drugs remains very limited.

If cost of healthcare alone is your factor for moving back, the Affordable Care Act didn't make it any better.
