Hi all,
I posted here years ago regarding MRIs with gadolinium-based contrast agents and was mostly ignored except for a few of you. However, I am back with a very serious warning. For years they have been associating high signal intensity with the progression of MS. Now they have found that it is gadolinium that is accumulating in the brain.
Please read this article with care. You are going to hear more about this in the next few months. The FDA has begun and investigation into ALL gadolinium-based contrast agents.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

Kidney problems are no fun, and that's the key issue with gadolinium along with it depositing in tissues.
An association is the same thing as a correlation. For people who are worried about heavy metal buildup, aluminum is probably more of a concern than gadolinium in terms of exposure. The FDA will handle it.
Correlation does not equal causation! As soon as people know for sure, things will change because medical knowledge is always evolving as time goes by.

I'm not going to look these over today... I have resisted having a lot of MRI testing though. I had one this year but that was the first in a number of years. And as I suspected, no apparent change.
Thank you both for sharing on DS.
Wish they had known earlier!
"T1 hyperintensity in the DN was previously described in the progressive subtype of multiple sclerosis and was associated with the increased clinical disability, lesion load, and brain atrophy. Similar findings were also reported with brain irradiation. From the perspective of our current understanding, none of these studies considered the number of contrast-enhanced MR imaging studies performed in the their analyses, raising the question of whether these findings reflect gadolinium deposition rather than a primary disease manifestation, as demonstrated recently by Adin et al in a study with 184 subjects who were treated with brain irradiation."
