Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Support Group
This community is a place where members can discuss current events and weigh in on what's going on in the world.
Hello, I am new to this group and I am interested in making some new friends, so please let me introduce myself...
In 2010, mom passes and then I find hubby is having several facebook affairs. Self destruction ensued, got drunk, lost marital home, sacrificed job. Snapped out of it, decided to get sober, seek therapy and re-educate. In 2012, I started having bizarre health issues. In 2014, I was in a collision at 60 mph and everything got worse immediately. I was told all my problems were from stress, severe depression, spinal stenosis, herniated discs and that surgery was only a matter of when, not if. Chronic pain ensued and then in 2015, I went completely blind in my right eye. 2016 rolls around, I'm diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis after all the heartache, stress and chronic pain. As of 2017, I've lived separately from my adult childrens' father for over 6 years and my youngest child just moved 3k miles away to attend college on the East Coast. Kaboom, its now time to grieve an empty nest! Now, It's just me, my little dog, and my Multiple Sclerosis living by myself in a rural two lane cow town. What to do?
In September, I will have been on Copaxone therapy for nearly a year. I participate in complementary therapies including mindfulness & restorative yoga while maintaining a lacto/ovan vegetarian diet. I have started medication for over active bladder and Baclofen. I have fatigue and lassitude, cognitive issues and can't seem to manage pacing myself. I have a day of energy, and then I am laid low for a day or two.
I don't know how to manage this disease alone. The nearest support groups are over an hour away and this is my first attempt using a social media platform to put myself out into the Cyber Universe, sharing my story in hopes of connecting with others with like minded experiences.
It's been suggested that learning to live with this disease takes creativity and flexibility. I would be delighted if you would introduce yourself by sharing your experiences with me and greatly look forward to hearing from you.
In this together, I can't, but WE can!

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

I hope you find this support group as helpful as I have over the years.☺ (My version of this MS is at progressive but I'm hoping to get a bit of relief from exercising, and recently going vegan. I'm following the McDougall plan.) I also have fatigue, and weather related problems. There was a meteorologist with MS who also was affected by dewpoint and humidity. (made me feel more normal when I found the study.)
I am a PPMSer, diagnosed in 2009, on the site for 7/8 years. What's definitely helped me accept/deal with the MonSter is being here and discovering we aren't alone. It has been great to be able to share symptoms/problems as they arise.
I try to be vegetarian, take LOADS of supplements which I read here and there might help, am on Baclophen & Tizandine for spasticity, anti´depressants, another med for my bladder and ginseng for fatigue. Use a scooter, cane or crutches, depending on the situation. I was diagnosed after having progressively worse problems walking after I gave birth to my second son. My kids are 9 and 17. Am a widow since 2 years ago (husband never recovered after being hit by a car). I go to a gym & use exercise pedals at home for exercise (used to do & loved yoga).
