So yesterday, I forced myself to get out of the house to do a bit of walking exercise. The plan was to walk to the end of the street and back.
In the good ole days, round trip would take me 10 minutes. Yesterday it took me an hour!
I was OKish getting there (10 minutes there) but I made the mistake of chatting with this incredibly long-winded couple I know, where there was nowhere to sit, and well, the return took AGES!
I suppose on the positive side, I did get an hour's worth of exercise in, but it doesn't do well for my psyche!

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

A walker is a good walking companion, you can sit anywhere, if you don't have one, a folding stool is convenient although carrying it might be uncomfortable. I'm never far from my walker or a chair.
It's great you can still walk, but start slow,, better ten minutes a day, than an hour a week.
Be well, Alma
Leads me to ask myself, "What was I thinking"?
This was 8 years ago. I wouldn't dream of it now. I have to use a rollator to get to my van and that's about 25 feet away.
I sometimes look at people walking and think to myself "value your ability to walk, you may not always be able to do it".
So glad I have full use of my hands!
Keep up the motivation. Any amount of exercise is so important. You know the old saying, "use it or lose it?" That is what has been worrying me lately, so I want to start exercising more like you. I haven't started yet. Don't know what I'm waiting for. So that's why I can say you are an inspiration. I hope you will update your post in the future with how your walking exercise is going.
At that time, I wasn't going out hardly at all since it was a month I was fully, surprisingly, and unhappily unemployed.
Being a teacher, I have only worked on and off the past year with temp work or subbing. I had a longer stint of unemployment starting from June, but I have worked to get exercise of some kind all the time. (I am meant to start up a new job next week!)
Now, I have a goal to walk around the block once if I don't have to go out, and I take a break halfway, then at the bottom of the stairs before going up, pulling my left leg up the steps. Yesterday I also promised myself to NOT cry every day about it. And we are in the process of downsizing all of our stuff so we can eventually move to an apartment with no stairs (ground floor or with an elevator).
Look, if you were aiming to be a world class knitter you wouldn't begin with the most complicated pattern you could find, would you? If you did you would most likely fail and decide that you couldn't knit.
Same with walking. To the end of the block for at least a week, then two blocks the next week etc
I'm speaking from experience. When I started I could barely make it to the end of our drive, but I was determined to continue.
All the best to all those who are giving their best effort.
It's been a while since I have practiced this, but I'm just getting back on track myself and it's my goal for today to get out and do just this. Yessssss - starting out small & growing seems to be the way to go. Baby steps, my friends. Be happy - be well
Since this upcoming weekend would be my weekend with my kids I thought I would put a lot of thought of what I could make them for lunch and supper. So it took a long while to look for stuff and to also ask the cooks who were there some questions.
Overall, I think I will have some good stuff for them; my ex-wife is into a lot of junk food so this is a good change of pace for them.
By the time I bought the groceries I was physically devastated. I needed help taking the groceries to my car. Then it was a huge effort lugging them from the car to my house when I got home.
I then realized that I did a lot more walking than I anticipated; and it was only buying sixty clams worth of groceries. Needless to say, I was so worn out today.
