I get the flu shot every year. I got a respiratory infection, however, last year that made my feel like I was dying. No relation to the flu shot, I'm sure.

My MS doctor has suggested no vaccines, including the flu shot, because of the nature of our disease. He thinks that my last episode might have been set off by getting rabies vaccine. We have overactive immune systems with MS, so vaccines might increase our problems, so getting the flu sounds small time compared to having a serious episode.

For years I'm always gotten flu shots. It has never had any effect on MS at all. My neuro, and all the others in the same office suggest you get one. The fever you get with the flu doesn't do your MS any favors.

The only reminder I get I had the shot is the little bity bandaid on my arm when I change clothes.

It's something that's a must do in my life.

First sign of a cold, nutribiotics (made frome grapefruit seed extract) & a homeopathic called mucoccinium. Top it off with vitamin C & it works every time.

I personally get one every year because I have a long history of getting sick really easy. After I started getting it I no longer had any major episodes of flu like I used to get. I guess you have to look at the pros and cons and decide for yourself. For me, I wouldn't do without it.

I am like giantonion....get on every year and it doesn't effect my Ms at all. For me it is a life saver....I suffer terribly if not...and that does flare the MS for months! So like giantonion said...you just have to weigh the pros and cons for you.

i am an asthmatic and started getting the flu shot bout 5/6yrs ago..i was sick of spending all winter, every winter in bed!! its made a huge difference to my life. a lot of ppl think vaccines actually give u the illness...they r kinda right..its a small controlled dose..just big enuff 4 ur system to fight off and therefore have built immunity to it.
im not legally diagnosed with ms (yet) but had my 1st 'episode' 3yrs ago..havnt stopped with the flu shot..no probs here. honestly, didnt even know that some dr's think it can cause probs with ms. but i think i know what id rather... feeling a little off for 24-48hrs after shot than wks and wks of feeling like im gonna die.

I was always out in the public so I got the flu & pneumonia shot. Started Tysabri this year. Don't know if it is the Tysabri or the flu shot but I can't get enough sleep. I get so tired doing little things. Am in bed resting at 4:00 everyday. This is not the way I want to live.

I get a flu shot every year and have no MS related problems. If I ever get sick, have a cold it affects my MS horribly. Got the flu once real bad in the 80s wiped me out for days never went withou a flu shot since then.

I never had a flu shot until I diagnosed, but now I have one every year and I get pnuemonia. I prone to pnuemonia. I yet to have a problem with either shot, other than feeling like more of a pin cushion. People without MS get the same reactions that are described here. My MD has always made take a couple of Tylenol when I get the shot. The year of the shortage I was on MD's list to have the shot, my husband, who had a trilple bypass in '02 was unable to get one. I am grateful for the shot, but for those who get the shot, is does not block all the strains. I had the shot 2 years ago and got so sick I was coughing up blood.

I got MS from a flu shot!!! MS first starts with a virus and the flu is a virus. I was told not to get the flu shot ever again because it might really hurt me or kill me. I don't even get the pheumonia shot. I have been lucky because I have never had the flu but now that I am saying this I will probably get it. Flu shots or any shots that have a dead of live virus should not be taken by people with MS.

If for no other reason, I get the flu shot in defense of my 92 year old mother. She also gets it, but I understand that it is not 100% effective. The flu can also be dangerous for young children.
