I finally got a referal to a new doc at Vanderbilt in Nashville. I'm playing the waiting game called when is my appointment, but the doc has come highly recommend ed by close friends. Woohoo!
My medical records are supposed to be sent over, but I'm taking copies of what I have just in case, and I've kept a symptom diary to track progression. I'm going to ask her to redo the mri and include spine with and without contrast. I'm not fond of the idea of a lumbar puncture, but I will go that route if I have to. I know I need to Waite until she gets my blood tests to decide if additional testing should be run, but does anyone have suggestions of things I should either take with me, ask, or ask her to do test wise?
Right now I just want a doc that will listen, tell me what's going on in my body, and treat me like a person and not a pay check or throw meds at me. I have a life. I like my life. I just need help figuring out how live my life with the constraints I have.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

Unfortunately, your time with the doctor may be limited. So the best strategy for using that time well is to come pepared to talk about any problems you're having. If you have a whole litany of problems, try to prioritize them in your own mind before telling the doctor. Chances are that everything can't be addressed at once, so you and the doctor need to tackle the most imortant things first.
As Lorrie suggested, taking a partner or good friend is essential. So much will be discussed you are bound to come out feeling overwhelmed. If you cannot take a friend, try a tape recorder!
Your log of symptoms is key. Take a copy to give to your doctor and let him keep it for his medical recods.
