Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

But Apyra is symptom treatment to help with walking & maybe it will help with other symptoms too!
But having LDNLarry post of its existence, as he is a strong proponent of LDN ,was important so others on LDN know it exist for symptom management....
I got to think about LDN after Larry posted it.
A BIG argument for LDN is that because it was not developed by drug manufactures, the expensive trials needed to get it approved by the FDA that was not financed by the pharmaceuticals, and goes by word of mouth anecdotal evidence only,therefore LDN was never approved by the FDA as an MS treatment because of that.
Ampera disproves that LDN argument.
Ampyra started as 4-AP that people could get from compounding pharmacies---like LDN is now.
Then even though Ampyra was not developed by pharmaceuticals, it was an already in existence chemical that was found to be helpful in MS....
A pharmaceutical company ceased it & changed the method of delivery did the expensive trials needed to get FDA approval and now will be marketing it. It was a torturous name change journey to compete the path.
It started as a bird poison, was found to be helpful in MS, people found out by word of moth and got it from a compounding pharmacy as 4-ap.
It was taken up to do the trials the name change whent from,
4ap->Fingolomid-> Fingolomid-SR -> Amaya ->Ampyra(FDA approved)
So The LDN argunent that LDN is effective it just doesn't have the trials to prove it....is somewhat weakened by the story of Amprya.
The LDN argument different from conventional MS treatment is whether the immune system has to be strengthened.
LDN- strenghthens the immune system.
Interferons - weaken, suppress or modifies the immune system
Copaxone acts with the antigens the immune system responds to.
So the story of Ampyra helps differentiate the argument for LDN. That LDN is not an approved medication for MS because there are no expensive trials to get FDA approval for it...well the story of Ampyra disproves that.
The argument for LDN instead of interferons or copaxone would be based upon strengthen the immune system alone
Ampyra is a.symptom treating med that was not developed by a pharmesceutical company and even so, a pharmescuetical company jumped on it, did the trial and will now market it.
I have read that LDN helps with symptoms a lot too, but no pharmeusitical company has jumped on it to market it....
And changing the something small in a med, deliverary, color of the pill whatever is a common method of a drug company to get their patents protected. Not being developed by a drug company is not a reason for not doing the trial and marketing it. and making $ of it. UNLESS....
I wish they gave the ability to edit. I am always confusing the wods Fingolomid with Fampridine. Fampridene no longer it exists. It was once a word for Ampyra.
Fingolomid is an oral drugg that is waiting FDA approval and will replace the disease modifying meds.
4ap-> Fampridine -> Fampridine-SR -> Amaya -> Ampyra(FDA Apprioved)
-vs-
Fingolomid - oral medication for MS waiting for FDA approval.
I'm lucky the word Fampridine will go away and only be known by "old timers". I would have a tough time getting it confused if it stayed.
LDN works with more than just MS, LDN is not an MS issue
more people's lives are being saved with cancers, autism, crohn's and fibro than MS.
The world economy can do what it wants, until then, it's LDN for me. Going on 7 yrs now. I don't care about the politics
