I found this to be exceptionally sad, but yet, incredible because it speaks to the love & devotion of the dog!!!! Esp.... Retrievers I think!? As I have Brittany's, & they have this kind of loyality & devotion!
I also have a Dalmation! And, she is slowly dying! She has cancer! And, she has a really bad place on her face that needs tended to but I don't have the money right now! And, it is getting worse! I fear that if she does not die on her own soon, that I may have to use some of my upcoming FA to have her put to sleep! This is a task that I do not wish to do!!! I just never have the guts or the courage for such a task! I am a coward when it comes to such a tradgedy! For me!? There is nothing worse than being put into that position!!!
But I see her suffering more & more! Though I don't think that she is quiet at the point of putting down yet!? Nevertheless!? I am sad for her already! And, in some ways for me, as it will be a great loss!!! I have had her since she was 2! She was a rescue/adoption!? I instantly bonded with her & made her a promise that we would be together until death due us part!!! And, so it will be!!!

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...
BTW, Paint.. what is FA? Just curious. I have a cat I am extremely close to and he has diabetes and it is hard sometimes.
How awesome that you have such a great bond with your dalmation. It's always a hard decision when to help a pet that is suffering. Somehow, I always seemed to know when it was time. Broke my heart still.
