Disneyland, Las vegas - scooters vs Wheelchairs.

Hi all,
I am hoping some of you can help me with some information on Disneyland Anaheim & Las Vegas & main tourist attractions.
We have booked a trip there which is my dream trip - always wanted to go there & hoping some of you can help me with some information on access & what is best.

Have read on our travel itinerary that we can take scooter or wheelchair on the plan.
I have both a large comfortable wheelchair but it doesn't fold at all so could be a problem on busses/coach.

We have a 3 wheel scooter that is comfortable & folds, easy to take seat off, fold main stem down & it will fit in the cargo hold (under the bus), where the chair would need the hydraulic lift to get that on a bus & it would take a fair bit of room & needs special straps etc to connect it safely to the floor.

Also don't know if we need busses anywhere in Las Vegas as we are staying at MGM Grand Hotel.

Any other information/hints etc would be helpful.
We are going there end November/early December.

All help will be much appreciated.

At Disneyland are scooters treated the same as wheelchairs? We have read & been told that people in wheelchairs get in to most/everything quicker too. We will be staying at the Anna Belle Hotel which is only about 800 metres from Disneyland.

We want to make sure everything is right for my "once in a lifetime trip".

When we went to Disney in FL I found renting from a company outside of Disney was MUCH cheaper per day and they delivered right to where we stayed at. So try to call around get pricing.

Bring a cooling scarf/vest/hat and enjoy yourself.

Sue I will be frank and tell you the experiences of people traveling 2 hrs by plane with their wheelchairs was not too positive. My friend Roger brought his manual. It was broken on arrival.

My friend Cindy with CP disassembled her automatic. Also broken on arrival.

People loading cargo are rough.I would think about renting here and I have heard of specialized travel agents who work with disabled clientele. I will check around and see what I can find.

Thanks for your ideas. From what we have read it will be around 66-69f which is cool but not real cold & definitely not hot.
Would welcome anyone who knows otherwise for Anaheim & Las Vegas.

We are flying from Australia which is 24 hours flight & 2 changes of aircraft. Not sure at the moment what to do about the wheelchair as would hate my main one which is worth about $20,000.
We are thinking of buying one that collapses into small parts (except battery) so could hopefully be put in a bag.

My favorite touristy place in Las Vegas was the Fremont Street Experience. Make a list of all the things you want to do then proritize them out. There is always way more to do than time. You are going to have so much fun.

Thanks, we have got the main things we want to do included. We are doing a helicopter flight over the Grand canyon with lunch at a restaurant overlooking the Grand Canyon.
That was the main thing I wanted to do at Las Vegas. We are booked at MGM Grand which will be fabulous.

At Anaheim we have a week & a 10 day pass to Disneyland & park & say pass to universal studios vip so no line ups.

I do not know of the places you mentioned because I have never visited them myself. That said, I have been to a few amusement parks and always get a scooter rented at the place we go to, but it is pricey $50-$75 per day. I would definitely call and speak to the places you plan on attending to ask what their policy is since each place is different. Busch Gardens in FL, for example does not inform you when you rent a scooter that in order to alleviate the wait times, you must go to customer service at the entrance of the park (not real close to where the scooter rental was), and show them your license and explain your limitations. They then give you a green piece of paper to show to the employee, usually at the exit of the attraction, and give you a time to come back, or if they are nice, scoot in before others. I have a younger son, so a few times if we wanted to ride again and the operator was nice, we asked if we could stay on another time. Sometimes they let us. It is sort of a fast pass, but again, I would call ahead to see what their rules are as well as reading their web site for information. Have fun!

By all means - order a rental scooter at each stop. It will be delivered to the hotel and will be there when you get there. Then the company picks it up after you leave. So Simple. No Hassle. (Prices vary from place to place - but are really less expensive - and nicer - than the 'park' rentals.)

And - if you will be travelling by bus or car from the hotels - you can specify that you need a scooter that can be taken apart to fit in the trunk.
Have fun. A rental scooter is the only way to go.

OH YEAH! I forgot - call the hotel you will be staying at and they will give you the name and number of scooter companies that they are familiar with and recommend.

I too would emphasize calling your flights and telling them again what you are dealing with as far as a wheelchair. If you rent one in CA you should be able to have the airport transport you to your plane & gates. Just give yourself plenty of time between changing planes. You may be first to get on but last to get off and I have missed planes because of that! I have had collapsable manuel chairs ruined by airplanes and I have had excellent rigid sport chairs worth a lot of money ruined by plane personnel. It used to be a rule that a collapsable chair could go on board but I believe most flights have cancelled that now. Calling now and right before you are due to fly is a good idea. Also contact your hotel...The MGM ought to be very accessable and should have accessable transport. I have been to disney world in Orlando with a chair and it wasn't bad at all. I was there many years ago and both my son & I got to go to the head of every line and got treated extremely well. It was really warm so do bring some way to stay cool. Have a great vacation and don't forget to plan some quiet time for rest-it sounds like you might need it!

    I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital.  I don't think that we will have her much longer.  She is very frail.  Now she needs help eating.  So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying.  I think crying releases toxins into my body.  I also worked up a sweat at the gym...
