Just in the past three days, I have been unable get myself off the toilet without help. Prior to this it had been hard, and occasionally when out, I would find a toilet that was too low or the bars to high. I had to stay home from work because of this. Any advice about Catheters? I can't self Catheter due to My concern is infections and that could trigger exacerbations.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

when my bladder problems started
I did not want to cath myself I was like you afraid of infection the urologist I saw said by not emptying my bladder I was risking infection by that.
I was told a collection fluid anywhere in the body can get bacteria in it.
he said the fluid has to be drained off
there are a different set of problems with cath's
When I had problems getting off of a toilet at home I got raised toilet seat. At work you can talk to your boss about getting one there.
If for some reason you do need a cath I would not do in & out if the problem is getting off of a toilet seat. as you need to sit on the toilet to do it. go for a foley even if you only use it for part of the day..
I used to use a foley every night & do in & out during the day.
If you use a foley during the day & you leave your house use a leg bag..
they come in different sizes. there are good & bad for all of them
if you get the smaller size ones you have to empty them more often
but they do not bulge as much
if you get the larger ones you do not have to empty as often but as they fill they bulge quit a bit.
I found it helpful to ware pants with wide legs or ankle length skirts to hide the tell tale bulge
if you have any ?'s about cathing message me
hope this helps
hugs
You can get the catheter that goes directly to your bladder (suprapubic) and empties into a bag and has to be emptied by someone. The catheter has to be changed monthly and can avoid the regular infections from self cathing.
I do not get exacerbations from UTIs. But everyone is different.
Of course, you will still have to use the commode for bms. Maybe a change is in order for your bathroom.
If the trouble is at your home.
get a good raised toilet seat.
also there are bars that you can install so you can use your arms to help get up.
I would avoid caths as long as you can
I have a super pubic cath now but I did the self cath then foley
I do get infections often & some of them has lead to flares
also if you need to pee at night you can get a female urinal
it took me awhile to figure out how best to use it I placed a folded towel under me
good luck to you in what ever you decide
I have had very few infections & glad to have it, Have a larger night bag to attach for night so don't have to get out of bed too pee.
I had a lot more infections before it than after it for sure.
Use it or you lose it. I have lost so much on so many muscles that I wish I might have forced exercise on before.
I do not know how ADA compliant your work restroom is, but I have found where my rollator helps me when a bathroom is compliant, but the grab bars just arent in the right place.
