Sadly, as parents we Want To Do, but what I've learned over the years is that kids, young adults, and adult children Don't Want Our Advice and when we give it they get mad.
Another thing I learned is that my son doesn't have respect for what "he has no investment in" meaning putting his own effort or money into. So when he moved back home almost a year ago I had him pay me rent, half house taxes, half heating oil and half water bill so he could 'Understand Money, Budgeting, And Cost Of Living better.
I also have learned over life, as a single parent, I Have To Take Care Of Me First because if I'm no good how can I Parent, Work etc. We "Teach" family/friends how to treat us, by what we accept and don't accept. This was a hard one to face/learn and I continue to learn "Boundaries".
I don't know how old your youngest son is, but I would think you could use some help, so instead of 'cash cow' have him work by doing things that will make your life easier. If he a young adult, have him get a part time job on weekends.
Your older son, is married so his first responsibility is to "his family"...we raise our kids to become independent adults. Instead of gifts, maybe instead think of something to "do" with his family...picnic, walk in the park whatever.
For many years I walked softly with a Huge Bat to get services for my son. At almost 29, he has Finally got his driver permit, is working 4 days a week and living an independent life with the help of his case manager and therapist. I do my best to stay out of his business.
By giving him respect, he respects me, by living by example, he sees what I do, I don't have to tell him. One rule I have No Food Upstairs and if I catch him, he gets a Fine Of $20.00. I'm no longer his "taxi" if he wants me to take him somewhere $20.00....no charge for grocery shopping and He Pushes Cart, brings groceries inside for me.
I'm Blessed in so many ways, but it's not easy. ((((Hugs))))
