Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. So I'll pick a topic! What type of music do you like? I love alternative rock.
Fallingleaves: I truly enjoy the peace that comes with being single, particularly not having to operate on someone else's schedule. I have literally no drama in my life anymore, and I spend my time as I like. That being said, I do miss having another human around who can motivate me to better myself or to do the things I am avoiding-or even just having someone else drive to the store instead of it always being me driving. I don't necessarily want another marriage-just that friend that calls up and says, "Hey, I'm going to the store. Want to ride along?"
Kiwasicu and Bill: I look forward to getting to know you.
Thankyou for being here and welcome to DS!
I used to have a lot of friends, or so I thought. I did some volunteer work many years ago and made a lot of friends doing that and gained a lot of self esteem. I knew a lot of people at church at one time, friendships. Not now, I am much more solitary due to health issues and having a lot of rejection and estrangement in my life. Just makes one cautious. Which I have realized I need to change, I am not happy without some friendships. My current good husband is my best friend but that is not enough I have realized.
I turned around in 2019 and realized I had to start an effort to make new friends. I have ended up with a few good acquaintances and 3 friends. I have had to overcome my own fear of rejection and self isolation to do this. I joined a woman's book club and found all these friends there. I've tried other things, hobby groups, social groups.
The pandemic really did a number on people's friendships and relationships. We learned not to trust other people and to fear being out around other humans. Don't talk to people or you might catch the virus.
I also miss that doing things with another human being like you said about going to the store. But I have decided that typically people just go do their errands by themselves once they hit adulthood. And yet, I too think about going to the mall with a friend, except I don't need any clothing. So I don't.
I think this is life's longing to be in connection with another human being.
We humans need human to human contact. Our brains need human to human contact or we start to get anxious or depressed.
So glad to meet you. Welcome to DS and this forum.
Ditto!!!! LOL
