I see my family rarely, but of course with xmas just over, I have spent a whole day with my family and they were all friendly and inviting. Its the first time anyone has met him, which I know sounds weird saying I have been with him a year! I see my family very rarely for one reason or another.
With love,

I have been reading the comments on here and i wish to add my voice to them. My wife and i will be celebrating our 20th Wedding anniversary on 4th March, i have had issues with my family due to the fact that my wife is black. Before i met my wife i had a heart to heart talk with my family about how they would feel if i dated a Black woman, the response i got from them was that it would be no problem for them(but deep down i felt that they hoped that i wouldn't date outside my race) so a couple of weeks later i said to my parents that i wanted my new girlfriend to meet my family. When i brought her home you could cut the atmosphere with a knife, they hardly spoke to her so we left early and went home.
One thing led to another with my family and i hardly spoke to them, after a while i proposed to my girlfriend and we set a date for our wedding. I was surprised when my family accepted our invitation but our wedding passed off peacefully, a few months after getting married the inevitable happened, my wife became pregnant and she gave birth to a gorgeous baby girl, my family hardly saw our daughter until one boxing day when we had my family round for dinner, my wife and mother were in the kitchen preparing the meal and i was in the lounge with my father, our daughter who was about 3 at the time showed my dad her new doll that we had bought her for christmas. He promptly blurted out "look it's Gollywog", i was shocked at the time and bit my lip, when they went home i told my wife about what my father had said and she told me to call them and show them the error of their ways. The reaction i got was that i am making a mountain out of a molehill, so i exploded and told them to come out of their caves and to stop living in the dark ages, i explained that we were living in the 20th Century and that Mixed Race Marriages were the norm, with that i put the phone down on them and didn't speak to them for about 2.5 years.
To cut a long story short, my aunt and Uncle were having a ruby wedding celebration and they wanted us to be there, obviously i said that i would come only if my family were not going, they reassured us that to come would be the best thing even with my immediate family there.
We went to the party, as we walked in ALL of my Aunts,Uncles and Cousins saw us and welcomed us and totally alienated my family, they also laid into my family about how they had treated me and my wife. Now when we go out to family parties my parents act as they are loving grandparents to my kids, but they cannot fool us or our daughters.Deep down the racist undertones are there but they always put on a show around other members of the family, yet when we go and see them it is a totally different story, they would rather spend time with their white grandchildren which suits us down to the ground. Just to finish off, my wife gave birth to our 3rd daughter on 2nd February 2013 and my parents have only seen her once, my sister hasn't even seen her, but she is always texting about coming to see our baby or sending messages via my parents but still hasn't seen her.
My wife and i are happy with the way things are with my family even after 20 years of marriage and wouldn't change it. We see them about once a year as this is all i can stomach. On the flip side, my wife's family are absolutely brilliant.
Sorry for the long post but i had to get it off my chest. If anyone wants to send me a friend request please feel free to do so
Mark
On my husband's side, obviously they wanted him to marry a Cantonese speaking girl so they could all speak Cantonese together. Oops.
Other family members honestly could care less on both sides. Being happy is what matters most.
I read all of these comments with interest. I am newly into an interracial relationship with a black man; I am white. He was married to a white woman previously, so there won't be any issues from his family. And of course, his children are bi-racial. I have told my three daughters about him and two of them have met him and really like him. I haven't told my son yet, but only because I don't see him that often and also, he has not cared for ANYONE I've dated previously because I have been hurt every time. So, I'm just waiting on him for a bit. lol.
I am a bit concerned about my siblings. I think my sisters will be accepting, but not sure about my brothers. But I have told my man that I don't spend a great amount of time with my siblings anyway and in the end, it is about MY happiness and no one else's.
We met on an online dating site a year ago and communicated thru messaging on there first, then texting and talking for nine months before even meeting. He is absolutely the most wonderful man I've ever met! I'm not going to let anyone get in my way. My friends have all been very accepting, but I have only started letting them know about him in the past couple weeks.
