I was molested as a child (8 yrs. old until I was 13) by my father. The state of Florida now has no SOL. I have called the abuse hotline and been told to call the Sherriff department to report the crime.
My mother passed away in Feb. I don't believe she ever knew until I broke down about 4 yrs. ago and went to therapy and ended up telling my mom and confronting my father. Not recommended by my therapist.
My husband of over 30 yrs. also supports any decision I make. We have sons and I worry about them and what this may do to them.
Would you send your abuser to jail, if you could?

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

So even though I wasn't actually "speaking up", maybe she thought it was time to protect herself and attack my credibility. That often happens in incestuous situations.
I agree, an incestuous family is not a family. It's taken me a long time to understand that. Maybe it's hard to let go of what I thought was a loving family, even if it was only an illusion. I really didn't know much about other families, mine kept to themselves a lot. I honestly thought that it was normal for sisters to be aggressive sexually with little brothers when nobody was around to see. At the age of eight, I had no frame of reference except my own sisters.
Back then, I really thought my family was normal, even if they did fight a lot and didn't show me any affection.
My aunts and uncles will be very shocked when this opens up. My father is the black sheep of the family and has managed to piss off all siblings, but one of his brothers which would not surprise me to find out he abused his daughters. I have 12 aunts and uncles on that side of the family. 9 sibling are still living.
I know my brother didn't know what was going on as he was just 6 when the abuse started. My father used my mom against me and always said I would be in trouble. My mom was an angry person - and now I know why. But, she would spank for any reason. I was afraid of both of my parents.
I grieved the death of my parents and siblings many times over, while they were still alive. Each of them individually. I don't know how many times I was desperate to forgive and start over. The up-side is I didn't grieve at all when my parents actually died, nor will I feel the least bit of sadness when my (imo) sociopathic sister and malignantly narcissistic brother pass on.
Anyone who can traumatize someone else in such a despicable way doesn't deserve to be missed. You deserve to be proud of your courage and the fact that you don't waste your precious gift of compassion on that man. You're an inspiration to every Survivor!
My mom has been my buffer for so many years. Now with her gone I feel like a baby without my blanket. My hope was for him to ask for my forgiveness and say he was sorry but, just weeks before my moms funeral he sat me down and explained how it was me who asked for him to pleasure me! At 8 I had no idea what he was doing to me.
Here I feel I have a group of people who understand and that in it's self is very comforting. I know I am not alone and not to blame for what happened to me.
Again, I thank you for your support in this journey I am on.
