Incest Survivors Support Group
Incest refers to any sexual activity between closely related persons that is illegal or socially taboo. Consensual adult incest is very rare. Incest between adults and prepubescent or adolescent children is a form of child sexual abuse that has been shown to be one of the most extreme forms of childhood trauma. If you or a loved one is a survivor of incest, join the group...

I believe that something sexually traumatizing happened to me when I was five during the trip to Tennessee. I became unhappy at school and often cried at lunchtime, after having a good preschool experience, and started wiggling in my desk because my vagina hurt, but discovered masturbation by accident and began having orgasms at 5.
One of the few childhood photos that exist of me still (and there are only 4 that I have access to) may say something on the matter. It is a special time for my mother. She is walking happily, my grandmother is standing several feet away, almost a lurking figure in sunglasses and perfectly draped cardigan. My father is also several feet from my mom, but glaring in the direction of my grandmother. The figures barely seem connected.
I am standing almost aggressively in front of the camera. My head is tilted with the unhappiest frown in the world on my face. I have been wondering if my brother might have assaulted me at the rest area on the trip because my memories are lost after a fall in the snow there, while I vividly remember details of my other grandfather's funeral. My brother was at the rest area , and he can be seen grabbing his crotch while looking at me and holding hands. But my mother believes she was assaulted or raped by my uncle at 5, and he was sent away to live with his grandparents.
I am frowning at the man taking the picture, one of my mother's other brothers. Is that my young self screaming out?
Why am I harping on this, you may ask. I believe this effectively ruined my school age years emotionally and really ruined my life, even before the sexual assaults that I do remember. I used to love that photo, thought I was being a bratty ham. I love the dappled light on the green field on it. It's also sad to see my parents so slim and attractive. I wish mother had protected us from her family and not put us in harm's way just so she wouldn't be rejected. I'm trying to learn how to not fight rejection, for her family did reject her, ashamed of the incest, they blamed the victim. How sick these dynamics really were.

I was sexually assaulted as a kid. I find it hard to accept that another person's actions caused me so much harm. He made bad choices and now I am paying the price. Stupid PTSD!
Thank you so much for sharing so vulnerably. I can relate to the effects that came of your abuse. The description of the photo at 3 is telling. I thought I was the only one in the world who figured out masturbation and orgasm at 6. I concur with ruining my school days. I feel like it continues to have an influence in the trajectory my life has taken, including more sex related traumas.
I'm so glad that the photo helped you to connect with your young you.
It's a school picture...
I was flipping through looking at pics one day, I came to this one and I froze... Started crying... My wife saw me and had to actually remove the picture from me.. I couldn't let go.. My wife's younger siblings saw me crying... The youngest didn't understand, the next to the youngest started crying with me (found out why many years later... She was getting abused at the time )
Anyway, I never noticed anything out of the ordinary about that pic till that day. It was only a school picture, so no one else in it...just me..
The things we see in just a 'normal' picture is amazing...
I'm sorry for the memories around your picture...
Sadly along with others on here, I do understand...
Here if you want to talk!!
*gentle hugs*
But then the true memories started surfacing...the fear, the beatings, the sexual molestations. It was a shock to realize that my childhood was actually a living nightmare. How could I just forget all that?
I've heard that our subconscious mind protects the conscious part of us by hiding the pain. It only unlocks the door when we're well grounded and we can handle the memories.
