this is what I take every two weeks. It works, if you need it and you do NOT take it you are at risk of getting a serious lung disease if you were diagnosed with hypogammaglobulinemia. It has helped me immensely but now needing a higher dose. as for shots they can hurt because the gammaguard is so thick. I would ask if it can be done thru iv its much easier. I am also allergic to it, so I have to be pretreated with Solumedrol,demerol,and benadryl b4 my infusions. you should be fine.

my husband takes the Human Immunoglobulin weekly with no problems. we have noticed it works great and helps keep the infections down. they do have a numbing agent you can use so you dont feel the needle stick. He takes his sub-q which is in the fatty tissue not IV. He was doing IV which you have to do that in the dr.s office and this you can do at home which is much better for him.

When did this treatment come out? I haven't even heard of it yet. How does it work? I was told when I was first diagnosed, that I couldn't get blood transfusions or injections. Why are you different?

Just to help clarify...our doctor also told us that Immunoglobulin treatments will not work for IgA deficient persons. This treatment, in my understanding, is for people who also have IgG deficencies and/or CVID (common variable immunodeficiency. If you are only IgA deficient, there is no treatment now known. This is according to our Immunologist.

I do have common variable immunodeficiency and low IgG and IgA levels. sorry I should have been more specific.

I have Common Variable immne eficiency and recieve gammaglobulinemia infusion every four week also. I did not know about the solumedrol or demerol but do take benadryl b4 my infusions but am beginning to have more reactions.

They really help my energy level immensely and keep my infections down. My doc has noticed my IgA numbers are down so has just increased the frequency.

Would anyone be willing to share the numbers..IgA? I do not really understand normal and abnormal numbers and what they mean?

Hi, I too, would like to know what the numbers mean. My Daughter was diagnosed with IGA deficiency her level is 0.1. I have been told by ped that 0 is no IGA at all and it's meant to sit at 1 for a "normal" person. My daughter is only two years old and this level hasn't changed since she was two weeks old. Do people with IGA deficiency numbers change as they get older? I am just starting to find out all the important information about it, i've been in hospital with her more times than i can count and would greatly appreciate if anyone knows anything about the levels. I take it sub cutaneously. I take 13 doses a week since September 2009. There was a short period of adjustment at first then I started getting better. The key symptoms such as acute sinus infections, low grade fever, lung problems are greatly improved. Others such as Diarrhea, joint aches, boils, otitis, still persist though

I am IGA deficient and also the others are on the low end of normal. I get IVIG every 4-6 weeks. It has helped reduce the number of infections I get in ears,sinus , which were my main problems. I also l have Mysathenia Gravis and I get it for that also . I feel it is helping.
The immunologist said that while it did help and prescribes it.

How many PIDD patients does your physician treat . . .I'll bet not many.
IViG has very very little effect on IgA.

This is Shoshi. I don't often post here-mostly on the CVID list. I have low IgA, IgG, and IgM levels. My last counts were in July: IgG-364 / IgA-36 / IgM-32. I just started IvIg infusions last month. My immunologist only gave orders to pre-medicate with Tylenol and Benadryl, even though I have a history of terrible, tragic migraines. Someone on the CVID post mentioned that I should insist a change in the type of serum because of the IgA deficiency, yet my immunologist insists that this is not a concern. In fact, he hasn't been testing or measuring my IgA or IgM levels at all for years. I only have the updated count because I was hospitalized in July for double drug-resistant bacterial infections in my bladder and I was allergic to Vancomicyn.

I would love any suggestions anyone has for me, too. As far as blood products, he did tell me that I can still donate my healthy organs {not lungs due to extensive asthma, etc.}, but definitely NOT blood, plasma, or bone marrow.
