Tylenol or Ibuprophen

I was just reading some older advice posts and came across one that said to avoid ibuprophen "Advil". My Dr's Nurse Practitioner who is over seeing my treatment told me to avoid Tylenol. She said it was to hard on the liver??? So I went out and bought ibuprophen. Eeks now I am a little concerned. I stopped taking my arthritis medicine because it is an NSAID so that I could take ibuprophen through the day for the headaches. She even told me to take the arthritis med if I needed it. Sounds like I should try to stay away from both. Thoughts please and thanks in advanced.

Depends on the doctor. My doctor said no tyenol but take advill.

Just don't make it a daily thing. I think in moderation only as needed.

I was advised to take Tylenol, and only did on my shot day, and as needed.

Our livers do best with less meds, imho. Are you currently on tx?

my dr said absolutley no tylenol worse drug there is on the liver i buprofen if u must,,,but don't take to much....don't exceed daily recommendations........

I was surprised when all my drs said tylenol. I'd heard all the bad stuff about tylenol and the liver. My gastroenterology dr. and all his staff said tylenol but ONLY as directed. Do not use more than the recommended dose and be careful when using additional medication as many include tylenol.

it depends upon your platelet count, the condition of your liver and if you have ascites. If any of those are a problem any NSAID can kill you. My doctor made my husband and I repeat that we had heard that and promise that I would never take an aspirin, advil, aleve, etc...

He said that tylenol was safe for me up to 2 tablets per day. But I have found that tylenol makes me feel drunk, so I only take it when necessary.

So depending upon your medical condition you might be better off with one than with the other.

my doctor told me to take tylenol too. but tylenol has never worked too good for me so i was taking aspirin.

then my rbc's went critically low...aspirin thins your blood! the nurse told me that if i were too need emergency surgery while in treatment aspirin would make my clotting time worse than it already was...so no aspirin.

i don't know if advil things the blood. if it does, tht's not good.

yes, tylenol is more harmful to the liver than aspirin but in treatment there are other considerations.

you probably need to do whatever your doctor recommends.

Is Motrin ibuprofen? That's what my gastro told me I could take for my tennis elbow, but he said only for one week. I have cirrhosis, so not sure if that would hold true for everyone. I usually take nothing....it has to be really bad for me to resort to pills.

    My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper?
