I work in an office of 20 people who I have worked with for 16 yrs. Many my age or older. We have 2 cancer svr. Everybody knows I have liver disease from hep c. I am the rebel of the bunch so I guess no suprise. Some whispers and stares but oh well. Its my life and tx and I truly believe honesty is still the best way to go. People are going to be who they are as am I.Concetrate on your wellness and all will wash out in the end.

i'm with andnicole about saying you have liver disease. and it's true. if you have hep C you have liver disease. saying liver disease has less stigma attached to it and when you're in treatment you don't need to have to deal with peoples negative ideas about hep C. well, unless you want to tell them? if you want to tell them then just say i hve hep C and i'm in chemotherapy for it.....

when i was losing my hair from treatment and i didn't want to tell someone what was going on with me i'd just say 'oh i'm having thyroid problems.'

yeah i know what you mean sockfuzz. once i was in an antique store and somehow the subject of my hair came up.. so i just said i was hving chemotherapy. the lady then pressed me for more so i just said that i didn't want to talk anymore about it cause i wanted to stay in the positive and pretend i was actually healthy and well and if i talked about it it would have a negative affect on me. that did the trick.

i told my most recent customer about my failed tx's. she teaches womens health at iu in bloomington. damned if she didnt research it a bit while working. she either has an insatiable curiousity or wants to jump my bones. the latter could be arranged, man shes hot for 59..

Looking at the response I recieved from medical personnel at different offices I decieded if these people treat me like crap and they are supposed to be educated about this disease what are regular people going to do, so I chose not to say anything, let them think what they want to, if a friend ask me i told them in private, but i also lost a couple of people i though were friends, thats one reason why i get pissed off when a celebrity gets this and does nothing to bring attention to this disease, to educated people, people I believe will naturally think the worst, but like the rest, THE DECISION IS UP TO YOU

My boss (I work as a counselor) told me not to tell anyone, especially clients, but also probation officers and other official entities. I was at times obviously experiencing sides (mostly stiff joints, tiredness and hair loss) and when asked, would at most say "I am on treatment for a blood condition and it can cause this." Some people would figure it out from that, and if they asked if I had Hep C I would just nod. Most people, though, would let it go at "blood condition."
Now that I have been clear a year and a half, I come out and tell people, if it somehow comes up, that I have HCV and was treated successfully. I guess its sort of a case by case determination whether or not to tell.

I noticed how everyone who finds out is some kind of an expert. Seems like everyone wants to put in two cents worth, even though they don't know shit! I'm learning to keep my mouth shut except for those on a need to know.
