The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.

viral load before treatment: 6,610,000; after4th shot: 4,740,000; I had my 12th wk labs drawn last week and will know the VL next week (I am very anxious about these results!!!)

ended tx jan 06. been clear since may 06. had gen type 1a and did the Pegasus interferon and 1200mg a day tx. 48 weeks.

i think my VL was 750,000 before tx

Most likely have had Hep C since a transfusion when I was 2 days old.

I am planning on treatment as soon as I get the medicare mistake corrected. They said I was approved and ready, but when I called they said I wasnt and if I had outstanding medical bills I would have to pay them.

I have read about the new meds coming and may wait, hey it has been 32 years, what is a few more months. Will update as I move forward..

i have genotype 1a , v-load was 3000,000 after 12 treatments ive had a zero vload , im on tx # 27th or 28 im losing count ! lol !

Never had the chemical cure, I do know that I have had the dragon 24 years at least.
I am Geno-1 and my viral load is slightly below 300,00. Milk thistle and alpha Lipoic acid. Yeah!!!!

This was tested last Feb. Not sure if I should be tested again this Feb prior to treatment. What do you think?

Forgot to say I have stage 1 Fibrosis, and looking back at my medical record I saw this... Has anyone come across this?

You are a carrier of the gene for hemochromotosis. This is a gene related to iron metabolism. Everyone has a pair of genes for this, and if BOTH genes have a specific mutation they will have the disease of hemochromotosis. This disease causes iron deposits in the liver. Dr ___ sent the liver specimen to test for iron deposits to verify that you are normal in this respect. We do not anticipate a problem for you, though, because generally only people with both genes mutated have a problem.

Now at week 18, Pegintron alfa 2b 100 mcg, Rebetol 1200 mg (for 48 weeks)

Geno type 1a,stage 2, grade 2.I am a slow responder.I was to do 48 weeks of tx.I started out with 2.7 mil. VL. @ 12 weeks I was down to vl of 90.So the doc extended my time to 72 wks.
I'm not sure what shot I am on.(LOL)When they told me about the tx time extension, it really threw be back.At this point, I should be around shoy 30?I know that my tx should end in Aug. sometime.
I am sooo sick and tired of this tx.It seems like I will not ever finish!Interfering with COPD, but I am going for the gusto until they tell me to stop tx :)I've come way to far to quit now!LOL

I am a new member to this support group. I was recently diagnosed with Hep C. My viral load is approv. 2.4 million IU/mL. I have not been typed yet. I will be getting bloodwork and liver biopsy in January. I am 58 years old (female)and I suspect that this disease was sexually transmitted 20+ years ago. Having said that, my research tells me that if I am genotype 1 or 4 with my viral load, I may not be a successful candidate for the current treatment. I did further research on a new drug in the pipeline called Telaprevir (Vertex drug Co.). Any views on waiting for this drug to be approved instead of trying the current treatment first? Should I wait?
