I have read that irritability and depression and anxiety are all symptoms of hep C, as for me I can easily slip into anxiety and very mild depression if i don' t MAKE myself get out and run or exercise, or just get out of the house. I am definitely Moody, and really bad when PMSing, I sometime scream at my 4 year old over things that are just not that big of a deal, then I cry. Once I apologized for losing my temper and my daughter held out her hand and said here it is, i said what? she said your temper , here it is...try not to lose it again. I felt so bad. And i am NOT on any treatment yet, nor have I been. i figure between the HEP C and hormones my family is in for a real treat when I do go to treat. Thankfully I have a very understanding husband, who will no doubt hold me down and tickle me if I get too out of hand with my bitchyness!!

i didn't talk much during teatment, my thought were not that good, so kept to myself alot. Couldn't come here and talk about it, cause ppl got upset that i was being negative so had to journal. Seeked out therapy and did some meditation.

I am in my 8th week of tx. I have definitely noticed some changes. I love people and have always been a very positive, upbeat person. I managed a busy retail store and loved working with the public. Now I just don't seem to have much use for people or thier BS. You absolutely are not alone! It appearantly is the norm because everytime I talk to a doctor, pharmacist, or anyone that has anything to do with HepC and my tx ask..."Any change in mood or personality, any depression?" It really is getting on my nerves.

@arabella....here it is....to cute. Kids say the darnedest things. I will remember that for the rest of my life.

I am also a lot less social- I work in HR, so all day I have to be upbeat and friendly to co workers who may or may not have a problem... It's all I can do some days!
I think because the treatment zaps your energy, you kind of go into a self preservation mode.. If I think someone is going to suck the energy out of me, I will avoid them like the plague. At the grocery, if there are too many people in a certain aisle, I won't go down that aisle- I don't care how bad we may need the item!
I have caller ID on the house phone and look at it before I answer- same with cell phone. I've even got my husband "trained" now to only answer if it's my Mom- hehehe...

I have never connected the social changes I've gone through to the Hep...I just always assumed they were more age-related. I still like people, but on my own terms. And my circle of friends has shrunk....I no longer feel the need to keep a friendship going if the other person doesn't contribute equal time/energy. I rarely go out to shows anymore, and live music has always been a big part of my social life.

Thank you everyone for your input! I thought it was just me... :-) I really enjoy coming here... this is my only source of socializing and communicating with others right now. People from my work want to get together and do a lunch, and although I really appreciate them for thinking of me, I really dread any social interaction right now. I too don't ever answer my phone...unless its my Dr or kids... I am enjoying my alone time organizing my photos and coming here. Love u all! Thank you for all your support! I pay extra attention when at store and with any teller, cashier or conversation.
Remembering the facts is another thing.

I am in public relations/sales mgmt and am an outgoing, well spoken people magnet....
Not so much now.....
I'd rather be in smaller groups and intimate settings as my spirits and exhaustion level can change at a moments notice.
I still work, part time..have only missed 2 days of work since Oct...
I deal with about 300 people a day, plus employees; in a capacity that I must speak with every single one of them...

I'm whopped when I come home...

so sorry this has finally attacked you.......... I found I self isolated for a yr and a half! It was better than the alternative......... locked the door and keep everybody out so I could sulk in my own way........... after a nap. I would open the bedroom door till my next riba rage or isolation feeling started overwhelming me.... so the door gets locked again............ It is to SOME degree to isolate..... but you CANT ISOLATE TO ds....... Believe it or not.......... DS is our life line!!!!!!!!

I am really appreciating this thread. I can relate to so many of the stories. It's been a roller coaster the first 26 weeks...i can hardly wait for the next 5 months. I isolate myself...thank goodness for my partner! She's been through it and is so understanding about the riba rage, depression, frustration and pity parties.

I also have good days...but yes, you feel crappy while on TX, who wants anyone to see them that way? Yet, the more you lock yourself up, the more life goes past ya. Great thing is tx isn't forever...and I agree......age has a big part in it.

Absolutly. Listed side effects of the Peg/Riba include (but are not limited to) ha ha, depression, anxiety, irritability. I started on an antidepressant before I started tx and am glad I did. I still became somewhat depressed, but I fear to think how I might have been without them. I too, was always upbeat and social. Boy, that changed in a hurry! Some irritability but not too bad - probably because I totally isolated myself. I am now about 8 weeks post tx and still have a long way to go before I'm back to "normal". BEWARE of friends and family who expect you to "feel better" the moment you take your last pill

I understand how you are feeling a i went through the treatments 5 years ago. it seemed to change my whole personality. so glad when it was over, hang in there. hope it works for you. it did not for me even after 11 months of treatment. I pray God will use it for your healing
