Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.

Folks Iron is as bad for HCV as alcohol in my opinion. I know alcohol is worse, but what I'm saying is too much Iron is very bad. I have read countless articles on it, and I'm sure most have too.
We have to watch out because we find iron in many places. I know for the longest time I didn't notice how much some things like cereals have. Watch out for things some cereals, oats, grains, breads, and things like that.....a lot are fortified with a ton of iron!
And also a lot of multi- vitamins are loaded with iron! And of course things like red meat, especially when served rare and med rare.
Now that we have HCv we have to start reading labels. And iron is just one of many things to look out for!
My Granny used to cook everything in an iron skillet!
In the first article up there, it was reported that when exposed to iron, the viral load would go up 10 times, that's a log. Like going from Log 6 to log 7.
Makes me glad I don't eat red meat! I do eat a lot of salad though, but it doesn't seem to bother me.
What I do to minimize iron uptake from food is this: With food I take calcium, Vitamin E and green tea, all of which suppress iron uptake. Vitamin C tends to increse iron uptake, so I take my C on an empty stomach away from food and digestion of food.
Did you hear where Metallica just got enshrined and inducted in the Music Hall of Fame?
